    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the volume of an alarm tone for a user, while analyzing an environment where a telephone set is placed. SOLUTION: This telephone set 10 generates sound and receives the reflected sound. A processor 11 measures characteristics of the reflected sound, such as amplitude and/or delay to decide a kind of an environment where the telephone set 10 is placed. Then the volume of an alarm tone for a user is adjusted on the basis of the kind of the environment shown in the characteristics of the reflected sound. For example, when one of characteristics indicates that the telephone set 10 is placed in an enclosed environment such as a brief case, the volume is adjusted to a high level, and when the other characteristics shows that the telephone set 10 is placed in an open environment such as on a desk, the volume is adjusted to a low level.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter/receiver for a base station of a mobile wireless network and to provide a method that conducts frequency hopping in a link to which an electromagnetic signal is transmitted. SOLUTION: The transmitter/receiver for an electromagnetic signal uses two hybrid couplers and/or broadband couplers to combine signals sent from 4 transmitters. The broadband coupler is provided with two filters that confirm a frequency range and each transmitter can transmit a signal within an assigned frequency range. The filter especially accommodates a plurality of frequency channels and then can conduct synthesizer hopping. Moreover, the method combining the synthesizer hopping with the base band hopping especially has advantages in the transmitter/receiver of this invention so as to ensures effective utilization of channels.

    Abstract: In a telecommunications transmitter and receiver two IQ-mixers are operated in 180 degrees phase shift. In both the transmitter and receiver, an input signal is coupled to each IQ-mixer and the output signal of the mixers are combined so as to cancel unwanted error components in each individual output signal. In the transmitter, residual carrier signals are cancelled, and in the receiver, DC-offsets are cancelled. In both, the wanted signals are added, doubling the amplitude of the resultant output signal leading to four times more output power and improved dynamic range.
