    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that determine whether a sender/recipient using an electronic messaging service (e.g., SMS messaging service or MMS messaging service) is located in a defined home zone. A communication network in one embodiment includes a messaging system, such as an SMSC or an MMSC, and a home zone system. If the messaging system receives an electronic message from a sender to a recipient, then the home zone system determines a location of the sender/recipient. The home zone system also determines whether the sender/recipient is located in a home zone. If the home zone system determines that the sender/recipient is located in a home zone, then the messaging system forwards the electronic message to the recipient. If the home zone system determines that the sender/recipient is not located in the home zone, then the messaging system blocks the electronic message.

    Abstract: A wireless network (100) is disclosed that provides repeat dialing to called parties that are powered off. The wireless network (100) includes an originating MSC system (110), a Home Location Register (HLR) system (112) for a called party (104), and a serving MSC system (114) that serves the called party. Responsive to identifying that the called party is powered off, the calling party (102) transmits a repeat dialing instruction to the originating MSC system. The originating MSC system then transmits a repeat dialing indicator to the HLR system for the called party. The HLR system for the called party identifies when the called party powers on. When the called party does power on, the HLR system transmits an instruction to the serving MSC system to attempt to set up a call between the called party and the calling party.

    Abstract: A spam filtering system (110) and method are disclosed for filtering spam destined for a mobile communication device (104). In the spam filtering system (110), a processing system (114) receives a message (106) destined for a mobile communication device (104) through an interface (112). The processing system (114) processes the message (106) based on first filtering criteria (204) to make an initial determination whether the message is suspected of comprising spam. If the processing system (114) determines that the message is not suspected of comprising spam, then the processing system (114) transmits the message (208) to a message center (111). If the processing system (114) determines that the message is suspected of comprising spam, then the processing system (114) processes the message based on second filtering criteria (210) to make a final determination whether the message comprises spam. If the processing system (114) determines that the message does comprise spam, then the processing system blocks the message (306).
