    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an identification device and method that can be used by a telephone line engineer to identify incorporated services by checking a telephone line at a site. SOLUTION: A tuning circuit with a specific resonance frequency replies a test signal with a specific resonance frequency injected to the line by means of a stimulation signal, and a modulator modulates the simulation signal when the text signal exists. By injecting a questionnaire test signal including a specific frequency to a telephone line, the simulation signal from the tuning circuit is detected in response to the specific frequency. A telephone line to which a test signal including a specific frequency component is injected is monitored, and when test signal is detected on the telephone line, the characteristics of the test signal with the specific frequency is enhanced.

    Abstract: A line powered data access arrangement (DAA) is disclosed which adaptive ly allows proper operation with power supplied from a telephone line as conditions warrant, while at the same time satisfying the relevant requirements of many countries. In the line powered codec, a startup procedure for the international line powered codec uses register settings, e.g., country-specific register settings, which are powered and maintained from the low voltage side (e.g., from the PC or modem side) of the line powered codec. In this way, even during low line power conditions the programmed state of the line powered codec can be maintained, thus a default condition will not necessarily returned to by the line powered codec upon reset due to a power loss in the telephone line. In another aspect, a charge storage devi ce such as a charge capacitor is charged from a charge pump formed from a differenti al clock signal from the low voltage side. A current and voltage detection module in the line powered codec is always powered from the telephone line. Upon detection of a n off/ hook signal or a power down condition, the current detection module determin es if/when the current and voltage on the telephone line is sufficient to power certain circuits on the line powered codec. If sufficient power is not present, the line powered codec does not power up. However, the line powered codec will power up if sufficient current is detected. In another aspect, a plurality of power rails may be provided. A first power rail may be associated with the line power, a second power rail may be associated with a low voltage side power source, e.g., a charge storage device. A third (and other) power rails may be switchably connected to either the firs t power rail or second power rail as line power conditions and on-hook/off-hook condition s warrant.

    Abstract: The line transponder device includes a tuned circuit having a defined resonant frequency. The tuned circuit, when excited by an excitation signal, responds to a certain resonance signal supplied to the line (101). A modulator modulates the excitation signal in response to the resonant frequency being supplied. The modulator is preferably switched off if the resonant frequency is not present on the line. The modulator includes a bridge circuit, and a pattern generator for changing a current in on branch of the bridge circuit. Independent claims are included for a method of identifying service information from a telephone line, and an apparatus for identifying service information from a telephone line.
