    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To insure service quality for IP network transmission traffic. SOLUTION: An IP network path used for IP packet transmission between a transmission side edge device and a destination edge device is identified, and bandwidth is virtually supplied to voice traffic. It is secured to meet voice delay requirement of a high priority by allowing a connection request for a new voice call based on residual free capacity after giving a priority to a voice packet. Also, a VP server 230 maintains data about bandwidth capacity of each path segment in an IP network 205, the data of the bandwidth is supplied to a signaling gateway 250, it is allowed or rejected based on the quantity of empty bandwidth, and the decision of permission or rejection is notified to the transmission side edge device. Thus, guarantee about allowable delay and jitters can be attained without having to directly send a signal to respective IP routers constituting the IP network path.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a control system presenting effective band width management by acknowledging an incoming call when a band width accompanying the incoming call is not larger than a spare band width accompanying a virtual circuit, providing the stream of an ATM cell in response to this call and providing each stream of ATM cells in response to this stream. SOLUTION: A PBX 105 transmits and receives plural voice band cAlls to the call controller 110 of a cAll processor 125 through an equipment 106. The processor 125 is provided with the controller 110, an AAL2/SSCS processor 130 and an ATM processor 135. The controller 110 sorts voice band cells by each call. When the controller 110 detects a voice call, the voice is encoded correspondingly to G.727. The controller 110 compresses a 64 kb/s bit stream from PBX 105 to a 32 kb/s compressed audio stream by using an ADPCM.

    Abstract: A system and method for enhancing inter-site traffic capacity for a soft hand-off reduces the requisite communications capacity on a forward path between the mobile switching center and the base station controller. A base station controller receives an original data packet for a forward path transmission to a mobile station over the forward path between the mobile switching center and the base station controller. The base station controller copies the original data packets to generate distributional data packets if the mobile station is in a soft hand-off. The distributional data packets are sent to corresponding base stations participating in the soft hand-off.

    Abstract: A quality of service guarantee for voice and other delay sensitive transmissions within an Internet Protocol (IP) network is provided by identifying the IP network path utilized for IP packet transmission between source and destination edge devices and virtually provisioning IP network path bandwidth for priority voice traffic. Priority for voice packets and admission control of new voice calls (and other delay sensitive traffic) based on the remaining available capacity over the IP network path guarantees that high priority voice (and other delay sensitive traffic) meet stringent delay requirements. A Virtual Provisioning Server is utilized to maintain bandwidth capacity data for each path segment within the IP network and to forward the bandwidth capacity data to a Signaling Gateway. The Signaling Gateway determines whether to accept or reject an additional delay sensitive traffic component based upon available bandwidth capacity for an IP network path. The Signaling Gateway then signals the originating source edge device as to its determination to accept or reject. Quality of Service guarantees concerning acceptable delay and jitter characteristics for real-time transmission over an IP network are therefore provided without the need to directly signal the individual IP routers over which an IP network path is established.
