    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the service location problems by a method effective and expandable in both working band width and CPU capability. SOLUTION: This method includes a step where the communication is received from a server X and desiring to supply a service A to a client C which is connected to an internet, a step where the announcements concerning the service A and periodically multicast to a multicast group G1 from the server X, a step where the announcements of the service A which are multicast by the server X are stored in a data base of a broker Y, a step where the request given to the broker Y from the client C is processed about the server who supplies the service A, and a step where the address of the server X is supplied to the client C from the broker Y to secure the service A.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a data terminal and a data transmission controller in a TCP/IP network that transfers a data packet by deciding that a receiving confirmation packet and a data packet are sent from an upper-stream direction receiving confirmation queue and an upper-stream direction data queue. SOLUTION: A queue 97 of a subscriber network terminal 100 temporarily stores a received data packet and distributes it to a subscriber's LAN through a specified route. A client terminal (PC) sends a receiving confirmation (ACK) packet, and a service provider network terminal 85 receives it through a backward (upstream) direction link 95. The client PC sends a data packet to the terminal 100 by multiplexing data to a LAN 55. A composite queue 150 of the terminal 100 forms each queue in every connection and transfers both a data packet and an ACK packet to the terminal 85 via the link 95.

    Abstract: A per-flow queuing method and apparatus for IP networks carrying traffic from feedback controlled TCP connections enables flow of information packets from one or more sources to a destination through a link and comprises a buffer of predetermined size partitioned into a plurality of queues, each queue being allocated an occupancy bi for receiving and temporarily storing packets of information; a scheduler for removing packets from each buffer according to a predetermined rate and transmitting the packets over a network; and a control device for determining availablilty of queues in the buffer capable of receiving the packet and inputting the packet into a queue if the queue is available, the control device further selecting a queue and releasing a packet from the selected queue to accommodate input of the received packet when the queue is not available. Increased fairness and packet throughput through the link is achieved when the queue for dropping a packet is selected in accordance with a longest queue first or random drop scheme and, when a drop from front strategy for ACK packets is employed.

    Abstract: A data transmission control arrangement for an asymmetric communication system having a fast downstream link enabling communication of information packets from a service provider to one or more subscriber terminal connected through a common network terminal, and a slow upstream link including transmitting packets from a subscriber terminal through the network terminal to the service provider, the data transmission control arrangement including a classifier device for classifying information packets received by the network terminal for transmission over the upstream link, the information including data packets and acknowledgement packets; a control device for establishing one or more upstream link connection queues in the network terminal in accordance with the classification of the information packet to be transmitted, the upstream connection queues including one or more data queues for transmitting data information and ACK queues for transmitting ACK packets in response to data packets communicated over the downstream link, the control device enabling a later received ACK packet to replace one previously received ACK packets stored in a particular upstream link connection queue; and, a scheduler for servicing each of the upstream connection queues and transmitting packets from the upstream link connection queues to the service provider in accordance with transmission parameters of both upstream and downstream links.
