Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism to convert a standard interface like a PR-303 into a virtual subordinate group for the transmission to a field element. SOLUTION: The telephone service and other narrow frequency band service in the network of this invention is served by using twisted pairs by using the existing fiber in the loop(FITL) technology, and analog video and digital broadcast video signals are delivered to customer equipments via a single coaxial cable. Signals through all customer subscriber lines are extracted from a central station 4 and distributed to an external distribution plant 6 by the FITL technology. Data and digital video signals from the central station 4 are distributed to lots of optical network units(ONU) located in fields via optical fibers as ATM signals. A narrow band signal is converted into a SONET virtual subordinate group and linked with digital video signals for the transmission to each home.

Abstract: In the network of the invention, telephony and other narrow band services are provided using twisted pairs via existing fiber-in-the-loop (FITL,)technology while the analog video and digital broadcast video are carried over asingle coaxial cable to the customer premise. All customer subscriber lines are moved out of the central office and are distributed in the outside distribution plant via FITL technology. Data and digital video from the central office are distributed to a large number of field located optical network units (ONU) as ATM signals over optical fibers. The narrowband signals are converted to a SONET virtual tributary group and are combined with the digital video signals for delivery to the home.
