Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enhanced interface for communication to a wireless mobile telephone set. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a system and a method to provide information to a user of a mobile station. Each mobile station(MS) is provided with a prior recording announcement generator. A mobile switch center(MSC) transmits a command to request generation of announcement, selected and recorded in advance for each mobile station(MS), to each mobile station(MS) through a control channel. Each announcement generator generates the announcement and reproduces it for an earphone receiver of each mobile station(MS). As the feature of this invention, each mobile station(MS) can reproduce the announcement without the need for setting a voice channel with the mobile switch center(MSC).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable positioning similar to GPS by using usual apparatuses by using radio wave propagation parameters in a CDMA(code division multiple access) system normal link or a TDMA(time division multiple access) system inverse link, for position confirmation of a mobile station. SOLUTION: In order to determine the position of a mobile station, data samples from the mobile station (e.g. sector number, pilot phase, and intensity of pilot channel signal) are read in a step S10. In a step S20, a cell site table is read which contains measured information of geographical positions of a base station such as the ID sector number and latitude/longitude of the base station. In a step S30, a section number of the data samples is made to conform with a section number in the cell site table, in order to determine a place where a pilot signal is transmitted. In a step 40, a distance from a visual base station is confirmed. In a step 50, geographical coordinates of the mobile station are determined by using TDOA(time difference of arrival).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a charging system that its charge is increased in the peak time of the number of calls and is reduced in the off-peak time of the number of calls. SOLUTION: A method for charging a call in a cellular mobile communication system includes a step for holding the records of the utilizing states of a channel in the region including one or more cells or sectors; a step for reporting to the mobile stations present in a region that a call is made possible at a lower charge than usual ones, when the low occupation factor of a radio channel is sensed in the region; and a step for recording the fact that the charge of the call is made low, in the charge record relative to the call. In this case, the charge record includes the information whereby a charge processor can make its charge low to the call. The method can be used in a reverse mode. That is, the subscriber to the call plan of a low cost is informed of the time when the charge rate of a call is increased, by the reason that the capacity of a usable radio channel has been decreased.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology that discriminates whether or not a radio station is in operation within a prescribed geographical position especially in radio communication. SOLUTION: This method and system discriminate whether or not a radio station is in operation within a prescribed geographical position. The method consists of a step where pilot signals are received from plural base stations, a step where a mobile station calculates the time delay between an actual reception time and an estimated reception time of the pilot signals from at least two base stations, a step where the calculated time delay is compared with the time delay stored in advance and a step where it is discriminated that the mobile station is in operation within the prescribed geographical range when the calculated time delay is within the prescribed permissible difference of the stored time delay in advance.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining whether a wireless station is operati ng within a prescribed geographic location. During an initialization process, t he wireless telephone measures propagation delays of pilot signals from nearby base stations and stores the propagation delays in a non-volatile memory of the wireless station. Thereafter, during a check process, the wireless station measures propagatio n delays of pilot signals from nearby base stations and compares them with the stored propagation delays stored in memory. If the difference between the two sets of propagation delays are within a predetermined tolerance, then a determinatio n is made that the wireless station is operating within the prescribed geographic location. Multiple sets of propagation delays may be stored in memory such that a determination can be made as to whether the mobile station is operating with in any one of a number of prescribed geographic locations.

Abstract: A local positioning system (LPS) uses the radio propagation parameters in a CDMA forward link or TDMA reverse link to establish a mobile station's position. The mobile station receives pilot channel signals from at least three distinct base stations and records the PN chip offset of the pilot channel signals. The LPS time difference of arrival triangulation approach requires no additional signal detection capabilities. Base stations send out pilot channel signals that arrive at a mobile station with a particular phase and at least a predetermined minimum strength. The mobile station reports back the "visible" pilot channel signals, their phases and signal strength to the LPS which uses a location non-linear system, expressed as a set of cost functions, to estimate the mobile location. The LPS can also solve the 9-1-1 mobile location problem for wireless CDMA systems by determining the position of a person in distress that has a digital cellular phone.
