Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distribution feedback type laser having a low threshold value in which low temperature performance is improved. SOLUTION: Probability of laser oscillation occurring in the vicinity of the short wavelength side of a stop band is increased using an active layer 18, a spacer layer 16 and a loss grating layer 14 and the effect of negative gain inclination occurring at the time of detuning of a DFB laser in the positive direction is canceled thus obtaining a method for fabricating a DFB laser having an improved side mode suppression ratio(SMSR) at low temperature.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a structure in which especially a component to be soldered to a board is positioned precisely regarding the soldering of the component to the board in optoelectronics. SOLUTION: A structure is composed of a base member 13 and of a material block 12 which is soldered to the base material 13. The block 12 contains a center line which is extended between a first surface and a second surface. In addition, the structure is composed of an optical component 10 which is attached to the third surface of the block 12. A pair of stop members 21 are provided at the base member 13, and they come into contact with the block 12 on a surface other than the third surface.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the reflectance sensitivity of the low-reflectance(LR) coating film of a semiconductor laser with respect to the thickness fluctuation of the coat film. SOLUTION: An LR coat film 14 is formed in a single layer, composed of yttrium and an aluminum oxide(YAO). The coat film 14 is formed on an output facet, formed of the end faces of a plurality of InP clad layers and an InGaAsP layer 9 (having an effective refractive index of about 3.2) which constitute an active region 20 of a laser 10 by vapor-depositing a raw material, composed of yttrium aluminum garnet with an electron beam. The thickness tqw of the coat film 14 is adjusted to about tqw =mλ/4nc (where, m, nc , and λrespectively represent an odd number, the refractive index of the coat film, and the operating wavelength of the laser 10). Therefore, the manufacturing yield of an optical device is improved, because the reflectance of the coat film merely changes moderately, as compared with that of the conventional coat film, even when the actual thickness of the coat film is more or less deviated from the tqw .
