Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of wireless communication. One embodiment of the method includes determining a persistence parameter for at least one packet transmission based upon information indicative of a congestion level.
Abstract:
In a wireless telecommunications network, a Code Division Multiple Access scheme is applied to data to encode it. The CDMA encoded data may be time multiplexed with other data symbols. The time multiplexed data are then applied to Single Carrier-Frequency Division Multiple Access, SC-FDMA, transmissions. The CDMA scheme may be used for relatively small payloads, such as those associated with voice traffic and control signals, and the other data symbols are used for higher date rate transmissions. This enables autonomous transmission, without scheduling, for smaller payloads. A transmitter includes a selector (3) for performing time multiplexing in the uplink, the required transmission scheme being indicated by the Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request,HARQ, ID. A first branch (1) carries the other data symbols and a second branch (2) carries data to be transmitted as a CDMA scheme. A CAZAC code may be used in encoding the CDMA data.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for multiplexing code division and frequency division transmissions. One embodiment of the method includes accessing at least one first symbol and at least one second symbol, encoding the at least one first symbol according to a frequency division protocol, and encoding the at least one second symbol using a coding sequence having a cyclic correlation properly. The method also includes transmitting a radiofrequency signal indicative of the at least one encoded first symbol and the at least one encoded second symbol.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method involving a configurable random access channel structure. One embodiment of the method includes generating a random access channel burst that includes a cyclic prefix and a selected number of repetitions of a preamble. The number of repetitions is selected based on at least one of a cell radius and a radio transmission frequency. This embodiment of the method also includes transmitting the random access channel burst over an air interface.
Abstract:
In an embodiment of the method, uplink reference signals are assigned to users in a group of cells. For example, a first constant amplitude sequence having low cyclic cross correlation is assigned to each user in a first cell of the group of cells. Here, each user is assigned the first sequence. Also, simultaneously transmitting users in the first cell are assigned to different sub-carriers. A second constant amplitude sequence having low cyclic cross correlation is assigned to each user in a second cell of the group of cells. Here, each user in the second cell is assigned the second sequence. The first sequence and the second sequence are different sequences, and the first cell and the second cell are adjacent. Also, simultaneously transmitting users in the second cell are assigned to different sub- carriers. The sub-carriers to which the simultaneously transmitting users of the second cell are assigned overlap in frequency with the sub- carriers to which the simultaneously transmitting users of the first cell are assigned.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a load at a wireless communication base station includes determining an indication of a maximum path loss between the base station and any high speed data users currently in a cell served by the base station. A target loading limit for the cell is set based upon the determined indication of the maximum path loss. In disclosed examples, the indication of the maximum path loss corresponds to a distance between a high speed user and a base station. Another factor considered in disclosed examples includes the data rate of such a high speed user.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for using uplink reference signals for access grant requests. The method includes determining that at least one mobile unit is requesting access to at least one uplink channel based on information indicative of a change in a masking sequence applied to at least one reference signal. Another embodiment of the present invention includes providing a first reference signal modulated by a first masking sequence to indicate a request for access to at least one uplink channel.

The present invention provides a method involving a configurable random access channel structure. One embodiment of the method includes generating, at user equipment in a cell, a random access channel burst comprising a cyclic prefix, a preamble, and a number of repetitions of the preamble, wherein the cyclic prefix has a predetermined duration that is independent of the number of repetitions of the preamble, and wherein any user equipment in the cell generating random access channel bursts uses the number of repetitions of the preamble. This embodiment of the method also includes transmitting the random access channel burst over an air interface.
