Abstract:
Alternative messages are transmitted in a time slot (e.g.3) of a frame of a time division multiple access communications system during periods of silence or when no speech data is present. When an absence of voice is detected, an abbreviated message (60) is substituted for a longer message in the time slot (31). In subsequent frames, the shorter message (60) is also substituted for the longer message until voice is detected.
Abstract:
A method of insuring the accuracy of transmitted or stored digital data involves the use of a cyclical redundancy check (CRC) code. The method is particularly useful for ensuring the accuracy of frames transmitted between multi-mode vocoders. The method allows a different CRC code to be used for each mode of a transmitting multi-mode vocoder. A receiving multi-mode vocoder checks the CRC code against the CRC coding formulas of the various modes. If the CRC code is satisfied under any one of the modes, the frame is labeled as "good". If the CRC code fails under all the modes, the frame is labeled as "bad". If the bit frame includes bits for indicating the mode of the transmitting multi-mode vocoder, the receiving multi-mode vocoder checks the CRC code against the CRC coding formula for the indicated mode only. If the CRC code passes for the indicated mode, the frame is labeled as "good", otherwise, the frame is labeled as "bad".
Abstract:
A CELP vocoder efficiently encodes an excitation vector in a way that is less sensitive to single bit errors. Each of the pulses composing the excitation vector are limited to one of four predetermined positions. As a result, only three bits are required to encode each pulse (two bits for position and one sign bit) and, in addition, a single bit error only produces an error in one pulse.
Abstract:
An active session mobility solution for point-to-point protocol (PPP) in accordance with the present invention provides fast and smooth handoff by reducing tunneling overhead on tunneling mechanisms, such as P-P tunneling from a serving Source (e.g., a PPP termination device) to a new serving Target (e.g., a PPP termination device). In the active session mobility solution of the present invention, PPP session can be migrated even if not all phases have been completed (e.g., LCP, PAP/CHAP completed but not IPCP and CCP). In such cases, the incomplete phases will be negotiated at the PPP of the Target PPP.
Abstract:
An isochronous telecommunication stream comprises a plurality of frames encoded by a variable rate isochronous coder-decoder (codec) at a plurality of code rates of multiple available code rates. A control component removes one or more encoded frames from the plurality of frames of the isochronous telecommunication stream based on one or more code rates of the one or more encoded frames to create a non-isochronous telecommunication stream.

Abstract:
A method is provided for triggering migration of call session state information. The method includes determining whether to migrate a network access agent associated with an access terminal in a wireless communication system based on at least one of mobility information associated with the access terminal and status information associated with the wireless communication system.
