Abstract:
A control circuit for driving, stopping and restarting a variable speed single-phase induction motor, in which when said motor is stopped from a running state by a DC braking means, the full voltage of the AC power source available for restarting the motor only for a predetermined time interval after it is stopped, regardless of the state of the running speed just before the stoppage. Three switches are provided for selectively connecting the AC power source, a DC power source for braking the motor, whereby the full starting torque is available to restart the motor in any state of the speed setting of the motor.
Abstract:
A defrosting controller for electric refrigerators which is operated under control of a first transistor adapted for triggering a silicon-controlled rectifier depending upon the result detected by a temperature detector in the freezer of the refrigerator and under control of a second transistor for keeping the first transistor in one state during the defrosting operation so that the defrosting operation is automatically stopped as soon as the temperature within the freezer reaches a predetermined temperature after starting the defrosting operation. Thus, frost accumulated within the freezing compartment can completely be removed and an unnecessary temperature rise within the freezing and provisions compartments can be prevented.

[Also in Division F4] A defrosting control for an electric refrigerator has a thyristor 4 shunted by a diode 11 and capacitor 12, also a voltage divider 13, 8 normally maintaining a transistor 5 non-conductive. On closure of a manual or time switch 14, the transistor and thyristor are rendered conductive, the shunting effect of the thyristor across switch 14 maintaining the circuit conductive after switch 14 has opened, until the resistance of a thermistor 7 measuring freezer temperature drops to a low value indicative that the frost has melted. A switch 15 may be closed instantaneously to terminate operation of the circuit. The thyristor 4 may control a heater 3 or the operation of a valve admitting hot gas to the freezer.
