Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a displayed picture from being deteriorated by the dust, etc., generated due to the release of an oriented film in the liq. crystal display device for displaying a picture and to provide a liq. crystal display device capable of displaying a high-definition picture. CONSTITUTION:A recess 15 is formed in the upper surface of a second substrate 2 by etching, etc., and a switching element 9 and a wiring 10 are formed in the recess 15 to form a second oriented film 11 having a flat surface on the upper surface of the second substrate 2. Consequently, the second oriented film 11 is not released by rubbing, a rubbing pressure is uniformly exerted on the surface of the second oriented film 11 on a pixel electrode 8 and the wiring 10. Since the film 11 is not stepped, dust is not generated, and an extremely high-definition picture is displayed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the color reproducibility of a liquid crystal panel having a multigap structure. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a first projecting part 22, a second projecting part 23 and a third projecting part 24 respectively having different height on the upper surface of a second substrate 2; and gaps d1, d2 and d3 having different distance are formed between the color filter element 6 of B, the color filter element 7 of G and the color filter element 8 of R on the first substrate 1 corresponding to a picture element electrode 12 provided at the upper surfaces of respective projected parts, and the thickness of the color filter element 6 of the B and the color filter element 7 of the G and the color filter element 8 of the R is made to be definite. Thus, the multigap structure is obtained without changing the thickness of the coloring layer of red, green and blue color filter elements, and then, the optimum gap and the optimum color reproducibility are made compatible, so that the picture of very high picture quality is displayed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a manufacturing method of a JFET which is easy to manufacture and has excellent performance by a method wherein dopant contained in material of which a gate electrode is made is diffused into the semiconductor layer of a channel region to form a semiconductor gate layer which has a conductivity type opposite to that of the channel region. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor layer 2 in which a channel region is formed is formed on a semi-insulating substrate 1 and a gate electrode 3 is selectively formed on it. A gate layer 4 which has a conductivity type opposite to that of the semiconductor layer 2 is formed by the diffusion of dopant contained in material of which the gate electrode 3 is made. For instance, the n-type In0.53Ga0.47As layer 2 is formed on the semi-insulating InP substrate 1 and the gate electrode 3 is provided on it and the n-type In0.53Ga0.47As layer 2 is partially removed by etching from the surface with the gate electrode 3 as a mask. Then p-type dopant is diffused into a part of the In0.53Ga0.43As layer 2 beneath the gate electrode 3 by a thermal treatment from the gate electrode 3 to turn the conductivity type of that part to p-type after that, required source and drain electrodes 5 and 6 are formed on the n-type In0.53Ga0.47As layer 2 to complete a JFET.

SOLUTION: This display device has a liquid crystal layer 3 composed of liquid crystal molecules, electrodes 5 disposed on both sides of this liquid crystal layer 3 in order to apply electric fields to these liquid crystal molecules and a voltage control means 4 for controlling the voltage to be impressed on these electrodes 5. Images are displayed by making incident light on the liquid crystal layer 3. In such a case, the optical element which allows the transmission of the light having the wavelength within a specific range and having light condensability is disposed at a place nearer to the incident surface than the electric element.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase display strength and to reduce display strength unevenness by providing a light shield layer arranged so as to be parallel to a liquid crystal layer and having an opening part opposing to a pixel electrode and the light shield part opposing to an electric element and a light diverging element ar ranged on a position opposite to the light shield part. SOLUTION: Plural transparent pixel electrodes 2 and electric elements 3 such as thin film transistors, retaining capacitors, wiring layers, etc., are formed in matrix on a glass substrate 1, and a light shield layer 7 consisting of the opening parts 5 and the light shield parts 6 is formed on the other glass substrate 4, and a counter electrode 8 is provided so as to cover the light shield layer 7. A liquid crystal is sealed between this counter electrode 8 and the glass substrate 1, and the liquid crystal layer 9 is formed. Further, the glass substrate 11 provided with plural microlenses 21 on its surface is stuck to the opposite side of the surface provided with the light shield layer 7 of the surface of the glass substrate 4. These microlenses 21 are provided on the positions respectively opposing to the light shield parts 6 of the light shield layer 7.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need to position microlenses and a light shield layer and to obtain a device which is free of luminance irregularity and has superior picture quality by using the macrolenses which converge light made incident from the side of a light collection layer on an opening part of a light shield layer as an exposed part of the light collection layer. SOLUTION: A glass substrate 1 is irradiated uniformly with ultraviolet rays from the side of the light shield layer 6. The ultraviolet rays are partially cut off by the light shield layer 6, but reach the light collection layer 12 through the opening part 14 to form a hardened part 15 at the part of the light collection layer 12 facing the opening part 14. Then the unhardened part 16 of the light collection layer 12 which is not irradiated with the ultraviolet rays is removed by using chemical liquid such as an organic solvent and then the hardened part 12 is left opposite the opening part 14. The remaining hardened part 15 has microlens effect, but is thermally annealed for more effect, so that the hardened part 15 is made into microlenses having shorter focal length.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase an effective numerical aperture and to make an exit angle small by means of a structure for independently determining the effective numerical aperture and the exit angle in an image display device for displaying an image and having a part, preventing a light beam from passing through it, in each pixel representing the image signal. SOLUTION: A micro-mirror 17, whose cross sectional shape is a triangle and front surface is a reflection surface, is formed on a light shielding layer 6. Incident light beams 10, 11 are made incident, directly or after reflected by the micro-mirror 17, on an aperture part 8. At this time, since an effective numerical aperture E and an exit angle ψ are independently designed, an image display device with a converging elements is provided suitable for a system. By facilitating the manufacture by making the cross sectional shape a trapezoid and forming the structure for refracting a light beam after reflection, the smaller exit angle is obtained.

Accordingly, dust, etc., are not generated due to the release of the oriented film when the surface of the substrate 2 is rubbed by a rubbing cloth, etc., hence the upper surface of the electrode 8 is kept clean, and a highdefinition picture is displayed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate the designing, manufacture, and inspection by arranging optical devices so that lights of respective colors after passing through liquid crystal panels for the colors are inverted in right-left relation an even number of times by the optical devices and then projected on a screen. CONSTITUTION:This method is equipped with the liquid crystal panel 1 for red, liquid crystal panel 2 for green, liquid crystal panel 3 for blue, color separating mirrors 4 and 5, reflecting mirrors 6 and 7, composing mirrors 8 and 9, etc. Then the panels 1-3 are so arranged that their display reference surfaces are parallel to one another; and the distances from a lens 11 to the respective panels 1-3 along optical axes are mutually equal. The red light 13, green light 14, and blue light 15 after passing through the liquid crystal panels are reflected by the mirrors, for example, twice, twice, and not reflected respectively, i.e., an even number of times. Therefore, right-left motion never becomes different with the colors even when the panels 1-3 are used as liquid crystal panels having the same horizontal scanning direction.
