    Abstract: A discharge tube (1) made of transparent ceramics includes a main tube (17) and slender tubes provided on both sides thereof. In one of the slender tubes, a main electrode lead-in member that is connected to a main electrode (6b) is inserted and sealed. In the other two-hole slender tube, a main electrode lead-in member that is connected to a main electrode (6a) and an auxiliary electrode lead-in member that is connected to an auxiliary electrode (9) are inserted and sealed so as to be isolated electrically from each other. With such a structure, it is possible to achieve highly efficient and stable lifetime characteristics and suppress changes in characteristics during lifetime caused by leaks during an operation and reaction between a sealing material and an enclosed material inside the discharge tube. In addition, it is possible to obtain a high-pressure metal vapor discharge lamp that has stable lamp starting characteristics and allows a free design of the discharge tube.

    Abstract: The discharge lamp has a discharge tube (1), made of transparent or through shining ceramic material and contains at least one luminescence material. The discharge tube has a main tube (6), a first disc which is arranged at an opening of the main tube (6) and a second disc (16b), which is arranged at the other opening of the main tube. The discharge tube includes several cylindrical narrow tubes made of ceramic material and fixed at the first and second discs. Several lead in parts are provided, which are arranged at the pair of main electrodes (7a,7b) and auxiliary electrodes (8) in the main tube (6). A sealing element is formed integrally with the lead in part, so that the sealing element is so inserted in the cylindrical small tube, that the cylindrical small tube is sealed air tight.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability seal section having a stable optical characteristic during its life, improve luminous efficiency and improve a luminous flux build-up characteristic in the initial stage of lighting. SOLUTION: This metal vapor discharge lamp is provided with an arc tube 1 made of a translucent ceramic, an outer tube 2 surrounding the arc tube 1, and metal wires 3a, 3b fixing the arc tube 1 in the outer tube 2. Nitrogen with the prescribed pressure is sealed in the outer tube 2. The arc tube 1 is provided with a main tube section 5 and fine tube sections 6 provided at both ends of the main tube section 5. A conductive cermet 7 is inserted into each fine tube section 6, and the fine tube section 6 is sealed by glass frit 8. The frit 8 is poured into the gap between the inner face of the fine tube section 6 and the outer face of the conductive cermet 7 until the distance L between the discharge space side end face of the frit 8 and a discharge space end face becomes 7 mm. The temperature on the discharge space side end face of the frit 8 is 800 deg.C at maximum.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable lamp characteristic during lighting and improve a re-start characteristic by applying the constitution that a radiation source having a cover of alumina and the specific range of a radiation dose is sealed as a starting auxilairy substance into a luminous tube containing metal halide, mercury an rare gas sealed inside. SOLUTION: An outer tube 3 internally has a luminous tube 2 of light transmission alumina with a pair of electrodes 1 inside, and a light transmission cylinder 4 surrounding the luminous tube 2. In addition, a sealed radiation source 8 as a starting auxiliary substance 8, a prescribed amount of mercury, starting rare gas and metal halide are sealed into the luminous tube 2. Also, the sealed radiation source 8 has a radiation dose within the range of 1.0 to 37 MBq, and formed so that a carrier made of alumina is coated with a radiation layer of alumina containing radioactive material, and a thin film of non-radioactive layer of alumina is formed on the radiation layer. In this case, the crystal grain size of the alumina is preferably taken at a value equal to or above 15 μm. According to this construction, a sealed radiation source having a carrier mainly composed of alumina can be put to practical use.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable illuminating operation by a low pulse voltage and shorten start and re-start time by constituting a metal halide lamp by a ceramic material, sealing a pair of electrodes and at least a metal halide being a luminous material and disposing a proximal conductor proximal to or in contact with the luminous tube. SOLUTION: At one end of an external lead wire 6a, one end of a proximal conductor 10 is fixed. The other end of the proximal conductor 10 is disposed proximal to a luminous tube 4. The proximal conductor 10 is provided with a given potential by a pulse voltage applied during lighting, and insulation destruction of rare gas in the luminous tube 4 and mercury steam is promoted. By annexing this proximal conductor 10, this lamp reduces a pulse voltage during start and re-start, and time required for start and re-start can be reduced. Further, there is no need for applying an emitter substance to an electrode.
