    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that the reducing of initial heat conductivity has not been achieved as solid heat conductivity is large because heat is transmitted through fibers when the orientation of the fibers is only kept in a perpendicular state to a heat transmission direction in core material for a vacuum heat insulating material using fibers. SOLUTION: While the orientation of fibers is kept in the perpendicular state to the heat transmission direction, the fiber length is controlled, so that heat transmission by the fibers is restricted to reduce a solid heat conductivity. Vacuum heat insulating material having excellent initial heat insulating performance can thus be provided.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum heat insulating material having excellent initial heat conductivity by improving the solid heat conductivity. SOLUTION: A core material 3 of vacuum heat insulating material 1 is formed by molding inorganic fibers into a board in a dry method using binder. In the inorganic fibers, short fibers of length of 100 μm or less having orientation directions perpendicular to heat transmitting directions are included by about 40-70%. The heat transmission by the fibers is thus restricted, and the solid heat conductivity is reduced.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an over covering material which can maintain heat insulating performance without generating a pinhole even under such severe conditions that the pinhole often tends to be generated, since piercing is generated not only from the outside but also from the inside by interaction of increases of the size and the weight of a vacuum heat insulating material on top of the increase of the hardness of a core material, when an inorganic board-shaped core material is used as the core material for the vacuum heat insulating material to be mounted to a refrigerator. SOLUTION: The generation of the pinhole caused by the piercing from both the outside and the inside is prevented by making a nylon film in a laminated structure of the outer covering material of the vacuum heat insulating material to be two or more layers even when the hardness, the size, and the weight of the core material are large. The vacuum heat insulating material excellent in the heat insulating performance with the lapse of time and the energy-saving refrigerator are provided by using the outer covering material in which the pinhole is hardly generated.
