Abstract: PURPOSE:To expand a central space between both banks so as to enhance the freedom of layout of an in-take system and a fuel system, by determining the axial inclination angle of a valve on the center side of a bank to be smaller than said angle of the valve on the outside of the bank, to a cylinder axis. CONSTITUTION:A V-type engine 1 has right and left banks R, L, formed with right and left cylinder heads 3, 4 installed slantwise on a cylinder block 2 in the center bottom. In-take and exhaust ports 5, 6 have an opening to a cylinder C in each bank R, L, and each port 5, 6 is opened and closed by in-take and exhaust valves 7, 8. In this case, the sliding direction of a piston in each bank R, L or the axial inclination angles of both valves 7, 8 to a cylinder axis A are determined so that the angle of inclination theta1 of the in-take valve 7 may be smaller than said angle theta2 of the exhaust valve 8, thus enabling the center space between both banks R, L to be expanded.
