    Abstract: A medical lead which has a connector assembly coupled to an electrode by a lead body, the lead body is designed so as to have greater resistance to crush fatigue in the area which is located between the rib and clavicle when implanted. In particular the lead body of the present invention features an insulative sheath covering a coiled conductor. The coiled conductor has three sections, viz., proximal, intermediate and distal sections. The intermediate section has a different pitch as compared to proximal section and distal section. In the preferred embodiment, intermediate section has a pitch of approximately 0.100 while proximal section has a pitch of approximately 0.025 and distal section has a pitch of approximately 0.025. Moreover, intermediate section has a length of approximately 10.4 inches while proximal section has a length of approximately 5.1 inches and distal section has a length of approximately 7.2 inches. In such a manner the lead of the present invention presents a coiled conductor having a greater pitch in the area in which crush fatigue between the clavicle and rib is likely to occur.

    Abstract: CONNECTOR FOR MULTICONDUCTOR PACING LEADS A cardiac pacing lead having a plurality of individually insulated conductors arranged as a multifilar coil. The lead includes a connector assembly and a ring electrode assembly, each of which are optimized for use in conjunction with conductors arranged in the form of a multifilar coil. The connector assembly takes the form of an in-line connector having a plurality of linearly arranged connecting surfaces, each coupled to one of the conductors in the multifilar coil. The ring electrode assembly is constructed such that it displays the same outer diameter as the pacing lead. In both assemblies, conductors are coupled by means of welds, rather than by crimping or swaging.

    Abstract: A body implantable lead and a stiffening stylet with a flexible tip for imparting rigidity to the lead to facilitate attachment of the lead to an internal body organ and for transmitting torque to the distal end of the lead. A flexible tip stiffening stylet is provided for insertion into a lumen in the lead extending from a pin at its proximal end along the length of the lead conductor to the electrode. A portion of the stylet wire inserted in the lumen has a thinner diameter over a portion of its length near the distal end to permit smooth transmission of torque by rotation of the stylet wire even in applications where the lead and stylet are tightly bent in the vicinity of the thinned portion of the lead.
