Abstract: PURPOSE: To realize sewing by means of both of a capital letter and a small letter concerning whole usable styles by including a second unit by which one side or the other side alphabet is alternately selected to sew a character or a mark chosen by means of the first unit. CONSTITUTION: Sewing commands for four types being usable by the operation of keys 11 and 12 (that is, a capital letter 'block' sign, a capital letter 'italic' sign, a small letter 'block' sign and a small letter 'italic' sign) are arranged in four memory banks B1 , B4 . Information in an address table T1 concerning the address by which a computerized command for sewing the respective signs is searched in the table T2 occupies a position being the same as that of the address table of the memory bank B1 . Therefore, in the table T1 of the memory bank B1 , sign and address information is accessed at a position 40 which starts from the entry of the table.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To increase or decrease the basic length of a design and, at the same time, to fixedly hold the density of stitches to be sewed by permitting the whole number of blocks in the deformed design to be equal to the number of the blocks in the basic design, which is obtained by means of multiplication through the use of the ratio of the length desired for the deformed design to that of the basic design. CONSTITUTION: The number of the blocks in the design to be extended is in proportion to the number of the blocks included in the basic design and its number is obtained in direct proportion to the whole lengths of the two designs. Therefore, the stitch density is kept even in the extended design to be the same as that of the basic design. Besides, when the desired extension is 'positive' in order to obtain the extended design with outer appearance being the same as that of the corresponding basic design, it is continued by repeating the sewing of certain blocks of the basic design by a certain frequency by the sewing machine during the sewing the extended design or executing repetition till the limit of the number of the whole blocks required for the frequency to obtain the desired extension. Thus, the stitch density is fixedly held.
