Abstract: The present invention relates to a system (1000) and method for 5 virtual network function (VNF) placement. The system (1000) comprises a user interface (100) for interfacing a network function provider and a user, a VNF manager (200) for registering VNFs, receiving and matching the VNF request, and initiating the VNF placement,migration and monitoring, a cloud management component (300) for identifying the VNF request, performing a VNF placement optimization, and provisioning the VNFs in a plurality of cloud nodes (700), a software-defined network (SDN) controller (400) for provisioning a network topology between the provisioned VNFs, the VNF provider (500) for providing network functions as software instance, a plurality of switches (600) for enabling SDN based cloud environment, and the plurality of cloud nodes (700) for storing the plurality of switches (600).
