Abstract: A document detecting apparatus for a copying machine, comprising a photo-sensor having a light projecting device which emits a measuring light from an inside of to an outside of a copying machine through an original glass plate, and a light receiving device which is installed at a position deviated from a path symmetric to an optical axis of said measuring light with respect to a normal line set up on a surface of the original glass plate and which is directed to receive a scattered light produced from the measuring light scattered at a surface of an original document placed on the original glass plate; and a microprocessor which judges whether or not the original document exists according to an intensity of a light measured by said photo-sensor.

Abstract: A document size detecting device with the arm (3) which folds by interlocking with the reciprocating motion of the optical system of the image forming apparatus and extends and contracts by interlocking with the reciprocating motion of the optical system. The optical sensor (37) for detection of the document size is installed at a prescribed position of the arm(3) and the feeder line (11a) for the light source (11) is held. Therefore, the special mechanism for holding the feeder line (11a) is not necessary and it is possible to achieve simplified construction of the image forming apparatus. Also, because the feeder line (11a) is caused to curve along the outside of the arm (3) at the rotating section thereof, it is possible to provide a large radius of the bent portion of the feeder line (11a) there will be no considerably concentrated stress which is locally applied to the feeder line (11a), therefore the life of the feeder line (11a) can be extended.

Abstract: An electrostatic copying apparatus equipped with a first and second supporting frames (102, 104) connected to each other for relative pivotal movement between an open position and a closed position. The first supporting frame (102) has provided therein a rotatably mounted interlocking input gear (336) and a first power transmission system (310) drivingly connected to the interlocking input gear (336). The second supporting frame (104) has provided therein a drive source (308), a second power transmission system (312) drivingly connected to the drive source (308) and a rotatably mounted interlocking output gear (332) drivingly connected to the drive source (308). A pivot member (378) mounted pivotally about the axis of rotation of the interlocking input gear (336) or the interlocking output gear (332) and elastically held at a predetermined angular position by a spring means is provided in the first or second supporting frame. An interlocking linking gear (334) is rotatably mounted on the pivot member (378). The interlocking linking gear (334) is drivingly connected to the interlocking input gear (336) or the interlocking output gear (332) rotatable over a slight angular range. When the first and second supporting frames (102. 104) are relatively pivoted and brought to the closed position, the interlocking linking gear (334) comes into engagement with the interlocking output (332) or input gear (336).

Abstract: A mass of residual toner which is charged is blocked by a blade member 17 held in slidable engagement with a photosensitive member 2 against movement therewith toward a development roller 14 when an image is being formed on the photosensitive member 2. When no image is being formed thereon, the blade member 17 is lifted off the photosensitive member 2 to allow the mass of residual toner to move therewith toward the development roller 14. During this time, a bias potential having the same polarity of the toner is applied to members of an electrostatic or electrophotographic copying machine, located between the blade member 17 and the development roller 14 for repelling the mass of toner toward the photosensitive member 2 against being scattered off the latter and hance smearing surrounding parts.
