    Abstract: El poliéster novedoso (primer poliéster [A]) de la invencion comprende unidades constituyentes de ácido dicarboxílico derivados a partir de cuando menos unácido dicarboxílico seleccionado a partir del grupo que consiste de ácido tereftálico,ácido isoftálico y ácido naftalen-dicarboxílico, y unidades constituyentes de diol derivadas a partir de dioles que comprenden glicol de etileno y un glicol de polialquileno que tiene una cadena de alquileno de 2 a 10 átomos de carbono, en donde la proporcion de unidades constituyentes derivadas a partir del glicol de poliaquileno es del 0.001 a 10 por ciento en peso, en base a las unidades constituyentes de diol. El poliéster [A] tiene un excelente índice de cristalizacion, se usa adecuadamente individualmente o como composiciones junto con otro poliéster [B] y/u otros polímeros, para la produccion de productos moldeados tales como películas, hojas, preformas y botellas, que tienen propiedades de barrera al gas, transparencia y resistencia al calor excelentes. La composicion de poliéster de la invencion comprende del 1 al 99 por ciento en peso del primer poliéster [A] y del 1 al 99 por ciento en peso del segundo poliéster [B], una poliamida y/o una poliolefina. El laminado de poliéster de la invencion tiene una estructura de multiples capas que comprende una primera capa de resina del primer poliéster [A] a la composicion, y una segunda capa de resina de otro poliéster [B], una poliamida y/o una poliolefina. El proceso para producir una botella biaxialmente estirada comprende los pasos de producir una preforma a partir del primer poliéster [A], la composicion o el laminado de poliéster, calentarla, someterla a moldeo por soplado con estiramiento biaxial, para dar una botella estirada y retener la botella en un molde, a una temperatura de no menos de 100 degree C.

    Abstract: The novel polyester (first polyester [A]) of the invention comprises dicarboxylic acid constituent units derived from at least one dicarboxylic acid selected from terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and naphthalenedicarboxylic acid and diol constituent units derived from diols comprising ethylene glycol and a polyalkylene glycol having a C2 - C10 alkylene chain, wherein the proportion of constituent units derived from the polyalkylene glycol is 0.001 to 10 % by weight based on the diol constituent units. The polyester [A] has an excellent crystallization rate, is suitably used, singly or as compositions together with another polyester [B] and/or other polymers, for production of molded products such as films, sheets, laminates, preforms and bottles, which have excellent gas barrier properties, transparency and heat resistance. The polyester composition of the invention comprises 1 to 99 % by weight of the first polyester [A] and 1 to 99 % by weight of another polyester [B], a polyamide and/or a polyolefin. The polyester laminate of the invention has a multi-layer structure comprising a first resin layer of the first polyester [A] or the compostion and a second resin layer of another polyester [B], a polyamide and/or a polyolefin. The process for producing biaxially stretched bottle comprises the steps of producing a preform from the first polyester [A], the composition or the polyester laminate, heating it, subjecting it to biaxial stretch blow molding to give a stretched bottle and holding the bottle in a mold at a temperature of not lower than 100 .degree.C.

    Abstract: The present invention concerns a polyester composition comprising: ÄAÜ 1-99 wt.-% of a first polyester comprising (i)units derived from at least one dicarboxylic acid selected from terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, and (ii) units derived from diols comprising ethylene glycol and a poly(C2-10-alkylene)glycol having a polymerization degree of 5-50, the proportion of units derived from the poly(C2-10-alkylene)glycol is 0.001-10 wt.-% based on the diol-derived units; and ÄBÜ 1-99 wt.-% of a second polyester comprising (i) units derived from at least one dicarboxylic acid selected from terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and naphthalenedicarboxylic acid and (ii) units derived from diols comprising ethylene glycol, wherein the proportion of units derived from a polyalkylene glycol is less than 0.001 wt.-%, based on the diol-derived units; and a preform formed from this polyester composition, a biaxially stretched bottle comprising this polyester composition, and a process for producing the biaxially stretched polyester bottle.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing polyethylene terephthalate comprising a liquid phase polycondensation reaction step, a precrystallization step and a solid phase polycondensation reaction step, wherein the precrystallization step comprises (A) heating PET chips at a temperature (T1) not lower than Tg and not higher than 180 DEG C, with stirring the PET chips, to crystallize the PET to a crystallinity of at least 30%; (B) heating the PET chips, with allowing them to stand, to a a temperature (T2) in the range of from (Tbm-40 DEG C) up to Tbm to crystallize the polyethylene terephthalate to a crystalinity of at least 30% , wherein the Tbm is defined as the endotherm starting temperature of a sub-peak from among endothermic peaks observed when the polyethylene terephthalate is heated by means of a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) at a heat-up rate of 10 DEG C/min; and (C) heating the PET chips with stirring to raise the temperature of the PET chips up to the solid phase polycondensation temperature. Precrystallization of polyethylene terephthalate can efficiently be achieved even in the case of copolymerized polyethylene terephthalate.

Date May 15, 1997In the production of polyethylene naphthalate of the present invention, the esterification reaction between naphthalenedicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol is conducted while causing water to be present in a reaction system from a start of reaction, in the presence of at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of nitric, carboxylic, phosphoric and hydrogenphosphoric acid metal salts and alkyl amines according to necessity, to thereby attain an esterification ratio of 45 to 80%, so that a liquid mixture of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid esterification reaction products containing naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, carboxyl-hydroxyethoxycarbonylnaphthalene and bis(hydroxyethoxycarbonyl)naphthalene is obtained. Subsequently, a crystallized reaction product is separated from this liquid mixture to thereby obtain a mixture of esterification reaction products. Thereafter, this mixture having ethylene glycol added thereto according to necessity is subjected to polycondensation. The polyethylene naphthalate obtained by the process of the present application ensures a low content of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid esters each having diethylene glycol skeleton therein, thereby having excellent quality, for example, in appearance.
