Abstract: Luminescent material was prepd. by adhering, mixing, dispersing and sealing nutritive luminescent bacteria for fish in baits and fishing supplies. An luminescent bacterium was shake-cultured at 15oC for 20 hrs in a medium of pH 7.2 contg. meat ext. 0.3, polypeptone 1, glycerine 0.1 and NaCl 3 %. After dissolving Na alginate (8g) in the culture (200ml), the mixt. was dipped into 0.4M CaCl2 soln. and was allowed to stand at room temp. for 1 hr in order to obtain a luminescent gel conforming to a desired shape. The product was able to keep its luminescent power for 1 week in sea water of 10oC.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain L-tryptophan important for essential amino acids from an industrally available inexpensive material, by using an enzyme system produced by specific microorganisms. CONSTITUTION:Strains of microorganisms, e.g. Proteus vulgaris IFO3167, Escherichia coli IAM1268, or Aerobacter aerogenes IFO12019, which belong to the genuses Proteus, Escherichia, Aerobacter, Klebsiella or Bacillus, and have the ability to produce the L-tryptophan from indole, glycidic acid, and ammonia, are cultured in an L-tryptophan-containing nutrient medium. Indole, glycidic acid, and ammonia are subjected to the action of the culture thus obtained and live bacterium bodies which may be treated, to give L-tryptophan.
