    Abstract: PURPOSE:Title resin composition, excellent in flame retardance, moldability, impact resistance, etc., composed of polyphenylene ether, a rubberlike elastomer and a copolymer of nuclear-substituted monobromo-styrene and other vinyl monomers. CONSTITUTION:(a) 20-80wt% of polyphenylene ether, such as a polymer of the formula (R , R , R and R are the same or different 3C or lower alkyl; Q , Q , Q and Q are H, the same or different 3C or lower alkyl; m and n are 0 or a natural number) and (b) 30-0.5wt% of rubberlike elastomer, such as natural rubber, polybutadiene, chloroprene rubber, or ethylene-propylene rubber, are blended with (c) 79.5-19.5wt% of copolymer composed of 2-100wt% of nuclear- substituted mono-bromoethylene and 98-0wt% of other monomers, such as styrene and acrylonitrile, to obtain the purpose resin composition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the flame retardancy, impact strength and arc resistance of the title composition by polymerizing a specific mixture of styrene monomers containing a nucleus-substituted monobromostyrene and a rubber, under conditions to obtain the soft component as dispersed particles having specific particle size and swelling index. CONSTITUTION:A composition composed of 80-99wt% of a mixture of styrene monomers containing 10-60wt% of a nucleus-substituted monobromostyrene, and 1-20wt% of a rubber, is molten by heating. The composition is subjected to the bulk polymerization with stirring, until the polymerization rate reaches 10-30%, when the rubber is dispersed as particles by the action of stirring. The composition is then polymerized to a polymerization rate of nearly 100% by the aqueous suspension polymerization in the presence of a suspension agent such as tribasic calcium phosphate, etc. The amount of the rubber and the polymerization conditions are selected to give the dispersed particles of soft component having an average particle size of 1.0-7.0mu, and a swelling index in toluene of 8.0-16.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled comspn. which gives molded articles having excellent high rigidity and high impact resistance, containing an organopolysiloxane and a rubbery polymer dispersed therein, said rubbery polymer having a specified structure and constituting non-rigid component particles. CONSTITUTION:A rubber-modified styrene resin compsn. contains 0.002-2pts.wt. (in terms of silicon) organo-polysiloxane and a rubbery polymer constituting a non-rigid component dispersed therein, in which at least 70wt% of said rubber polymer is composed of polybutadiene where 15-30mol% thereof has a 1,2- vinyl bonded structure, and the average particle size of non-rigid component particles is within the range of 0.5-2.5mu. Molded articles having excellent rigidity and impact strength can be obtd. without being restricted by particular additives and technique, though the addition of an organosilicone compd. to a conventional thermoplastic rubber-modified resin has to be conducted in a specified manner.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a composition having high impact resistance and balanced properties such as gloss, tensile strength, etc., by adding an organic polysiloxane to a specific rubber-modified styrene resin. CONSTITUTION:A rubber-modified styrene resin composition having a methanol- soluble content of =90mol%, and an organic polysiloxane (especially polydimethylsiloxane). The amount of the rubbery polymer is 1-15%, and that of the polysiloxane is 0.005-0.2%, preferably 0.006-0.07% as silicon. The composition can be obtained by polymerizing a styrene monomer in the presence of the rubbery polymer. The addition of the polysiloxane can be carried out at an arbitrary stage; however, addition to the monomer or in the extrusion step is preferable.
