Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a self-adhesive agent layer which has excellent smoothness and thickness uniformity and is further optically strain-free by stripping one of self-adhesive agent sheets from a release surface and press-sticking the surface of the exposed self-adhesive agent layer to a backing base body. CONSTITUTION:The self-adhesive agent 3 consisting of an acrylic solvent, etc., and release films 2, 4 are used in the self-sticking working of the backing base body and the self-adhesive agent sheet 1 having three-layered structure is formed by successively laminating the release film 2, the self-adhesive agent 3 and the release film 4. The self-adhesive agent sheet 1 is press-stuck and formed onto the backing base body while the release film 4 is stripped therefrom by using a stripping roll and laminator. The self-adhesive agent which has the excellent transparency and is optically strain-free is thus formed if the self-adhesive agent layer is formed on the surface of the backing base body.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polarizing film that is excellent in polarizing performance and optical uniformity and will be used for a liquid crystal display and so on, by subjecting an unstretched film consisting of a thermoplastic resin and an optical two-tone material to shortening treatment to shorten the apparant length and stretching laterally the film forcibly at a specified draw ratio. CONSTITUTION:An optical two-tone material (e.g. anthraquinone type two-tone dyes, etc.) is added to a thermoplastic resin (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate resins, etc.), and after the mixture is stirred uniformly, the mixture is melt-extruded from a T-die of an extruder, and is quenched to produce an unstretched film. After this unstretched polarizing film is subjected to shortening treatment to shorten the apparatus length thereof to a length of 80% of the actual length, it is stretched laterally at a draw ratio of 2.5 or more to produce the desired polarizing film. It is desirable that the longitudinal cross section of the unstretched film is corrugated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a display element which is lightweight and thin although it is large in size by using such a liquid crystal display substrate that the thickness of a polarizing film itself consisting of a light dichroic material and hydrophobic resin is less than a specific value, or setting the thickness of a laminate of a polarizing film and a reinforcing material larger than a specific value. CONSTITUTION:The substrate uses the polarizing film itself formed by incorporating the light dichroic material such as iodine and dichroic dye in transparent hydrophobic resin, such as polyether and polyester, which can be drawn or the laminate of the polarizing film and reinforcing agent hydrophobic resin which has no polarizing polarity. The thickness of this substrate is set between 100mu and 500mum to obtain thickness uniformity and flatness. A transparent electrode is formed on one surface of this polarizing film and silane orienting agent is applied and rubbed; and two substrates are joined together across a seal agent to form a liquid crystal cell. Thus, the liquid crystal display element which is thin and ligthweight and can be curved is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To have excellent polarizing power and to improve durability such as moisture resistance and heat resistance, etc. by using an org. resin polymer as a film base material and a vat dye or org. pigment as a dichromatic dye. CONSTITUTION:An org. resin polymer is used as a film base material and a vat dye or org. pigment having no water soluble group is used as a dichromatic dye for providing a polarizing characteristic to said material. A hydrophobic resin polymer, for example, arom. polyester is used as the polymer of the film base material. Sich polymer has excellent transparency, moisture resistance, heat resistance and weatherability as the basic characteristics. The above-mentioned vat dye and org. pigment have the common characteristic in that both are the dyes of relatively large mol.wt. having no water solubility. The dyes of the rigid molecular structure of which the length in the molecular axis direction is more than 3 times the length in the short axis direction is more preferable in terms of the molecular structure in order to provide a particularly high degree of polarization to the film. The polarizing film for which such dye and pigment are used has excellent polarizing power, good durability such as heat resistance and light resistance and good reliability and is used for an LCD, window glass, spectacles, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten the heating time and at the same time eliminate the deterioration of stretchability by heat setting by a method wherein the heat for heat setting of stretched film is performed with the far infrared rays with specified wave lengths. CONSTITUTION:The heating of the treatment for setting uniaxially stretched film by heating is substantially performed with far infrared rays with the wave lengths of 1mum or longer. The far infrared rays with the wave lengths of 1mum or longer is absorbed by the stretched film with high thermal efficiency and, in addition, heats the film from its inside, resulting in decreasing the uneven heating. Because the stretched film is heated nearly instantly, the width substantially irradiated with the far infrared rays of about 30cm is enough in the direction of shifting of the stretched film, normal to which the far infrared rays is preferably irradiated. The originating source of the far infrared rays is arranged normal to the direction of shifting of the stretched film and at a height so that half and more of the total light volume received by the stretched film out of the far infrared rays irradiated from the originating source of the far infrared rays fall preferably within the width of 30cm.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an economically advantageous color polarizing film requiring no laminating and having a freely selected hue, superior polarizing performance, superior heat and moisture resistances, by stretching a hydrophobic polymer film in 2 steps. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophobic polymer film is made dyeable by primary stretching and dyed with substantive color, disperse dye, acid dye or other dichromatic dye. In order to increase the degree of polarization by the orientation of the dye, secondary stretching is carried out in one direction or two directions perpendicular to each other. At this time, it is required that the stretching rate of the finally stretched film in one direction is made at least 1.1 times that of the film in the direction perpendicular to said direction.

The resin consisting of the abietic acid as the principal component is a rosin or a derivative thereof, and the amount thereof is preferably 5-20pts.wt. The incorporation of a lubricant of fatty acid amide compound is undesirable due to the inhibition of the self-tackiness.
