Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing 2-chloropropionaldehyde (2-CPA) by using vinyl chloride, carbon monoxide and hydrogen as raw materials. Although processes making use of cobalt catalysts have conventionally been known, it is disclosed herein that by using a rhodium compound and a nitrogen- or phosphorus-containing Lewis base in combination as a catalyst, the reaction is allowed to proceed at temperature and pressure lower than those required for such conventional processes and the selectivity toward the intended product is improved. It is also disclosed that by causing water to exist in the reaction system and using a water-insoluble organic solvent, fractionating the reaction mixture into a water layer and an organic layer after the reaction and then collecting 2-CPA from the water layer through distillation, extraction or the like, the rhodium compound contained substantially in its entirety in an organic layer can be reutilized in the form of its solution. This process is an extremely good process suitable for use in the preparation of 2-CPA which is useful as an intermediate for chemical products, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceutical products, etc.

Abstract: A process for producing 2-chloropropionaldehyde by hydroformylation of vinyl chloride using a rhodium catalyst combined with a base, which comprises keeping the concentration of 2-chloropropionaldehyde produced in the reaction solution at a level of not higher than 10 % to thereby markedly improve catalyst activity. The reaction can be continued for a long time with the catalyst activity kept at a high level by conducting the reaction in a water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble solvent simultaneously with extraction with water, separating 2-chloropropionaldehyde present in the extract by distillation or the like to reduce its concentration to a given level or below, and recycling the extract after anion exchange treatment.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in catalyst activity, by treating a liquid phase containing a catalyst with active carbon and reusing the catalyst in oxidizing 2-chloropropionaldehyde with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of an oxidation catalyst and simultaneously reusing the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:2-Chloropropionaldehyde is oxidized with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of an oxidation catalyst to product 2-chloropropionic acid useful as an intermediate for industrial and agricultural chemicals. In the process, a liquid phase, prepared by at least partially separating preferably the unreacted raw material and the aimed compound from the afore-mentioned reaction mixture and containing the above-mentioned catalyst is treated with active carbon to reuse the afore-mentioned catalyst without deteriorating activity in reusing the above-mentioned catalyst. Further, since the reaction temperature consequently need not be increased for maintaining the activity of the reused catalyst, selectivity for the aimed compound is improved. Furthermore, problems of environmental pollution, raw material loss, etc., caused by discarding of the catalyst can be improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound which is used as an intermediate of chemicals, agrochemicals and medicines with high catalyst activity efficiently by conducting the reaction between vinyl chloride, carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium compound and a base under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The reaction between vinyl chloride, a carbon monoxide and hydrogen is carried out in the presence of a rhodium compound and a base such as hydride carbonyl tristriphenylphosphine rhodium [RhH(CO)(PPh3)3], in a solvent which is insoluble or slightly soluble in water, such as a saturated hydrocarbon such as hexane or an aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzene, as extraction with an aqueous medium of pH0.5-7 is effected to give the subject compound. As the aqueous medium, is preferably used a carboxylic acid and the concentration is preferably 0.01-1mol. per 1l of the medium.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain 2-chloropropionic acid at a low cost, by using a rhenium compound, a ruthenium compound or a rhodium compound as a catalyst in a liquid-phase oxidation of 2-chloropropionaldehyde with oxygen or an oxygen- containing gas. CONSTITUTION:The objective 2-chloropropionic acid having wide applications as an intermediate for industrial chemicals and agricultural chemicals is produced by oxidizing 2-chloropropionaldehyde with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas in liquid phase in the presence of at least one kind of metallic compound catalyst selected from a rhenium compound, a ruthenium compound and a rhodium compound preferably at 20-120 deg.C, especially at 40-80 deg.C. The objective compound can be easily produced in high purity and efficiency in an environment having little corrosivity under an easily controllable oxidation condition while suppressing the by-production of peracid, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for producing industrial chemicals, etc., at a controllable oxidation rate free from corrosion problems advantageously even on a small scale, by oxidizing 2- chloropropionaldehyde with oxygen in the presence of a specific metallic compound catalyst in a liquid phase. CONSTITUTION:2-Chloropropionaldehyde is oxidized with oxygen or an oxygen- containing gas by the use of at least one metallic compound catalyst selected from the group consisting of metallic compounds of groups Va and VIa of the periodic table as a catalyst at 20-120 deg.C, preferably 40-80 deg.C to give the aimed compound. The amount of water in the reaction system is =5kg/cm and as partial pressure in the system. A vanadium compound or a molybdenum compound is especially preferable as the catalytic component and the amount of the compound used is properly 0.01-5wt.% in the liquid phase.
