Abstract: Phenolic resin compositions comprising a polymeric substance having a phenolic OH group such as phenol resins, and a rubber having an epoxy group and an epoxy equivalent of 500 to 30,000 such as butadiene copolymers, acrylic copolymers, chloroprene copolymers and urethane copolymers are provided. These resin compositions exhibit improved properties having overcome the drawback of brittle properties intrinsic of conventional phenolic resins, and also exhibit cold resistance; hence they are used as molding materials, laminating materials, casting materials, binders, etc. Further, molding resin compositions having improved solvent-resistance and metal insert properties are provided.

Powdery mildew, Pyricularia oryzae of rice plant and other various plant diseases, is excellent in residual effect, has also activity against resistant strain for conventional chemicals. particularly exerts control effect against Botrytis cinerea at a lower dosage as compared with a prior art, is also safe for crops, and thus is useful as a plant disease control agent.

SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [Q is H, a halogen, (trifluoro)methyl, methylthio, etc.; R is a 1-12C (branched) (halogeno)alkyl, a 2-10C (branched)(halogeno)alkyl, a 2-10C alkylthioalkyl, etc.; Ar is a group of formula II (R is CF3 , CHF2 , CH3 , ethyl, Cl, Br or I); R and a group of the formula NHCOAr are mutually adjacent], e.g. N- 2-[3-(4-tolyl)]thienyl}-3- trifluoromethyl-1-methylpyrazole-4-carboxylic amide. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula III with a compound of the formula ArCO-X (X is Cl, Br or I) in a melted state or in a solvent.

This compound is obtained by mixing 4-chloroquinolines of formula II with pyrimidines of formula III and reacting these components in a melted state or in an inactive solvent, preferably in the presence of a base or reacting a metal salt of 4-hydroxy(or mercapto)quinolines with 2-chloropyrimidines or reacting 4-hydroxy(or mercapto)quinolines with 2-chloropyrimidines of formula V in the presence of a base.
