Abstract: Beta-chloroalanine was prepd. from aziridine-2-carbonate and HCl. Thus, 236 g of 32% aq. soln. of Na aziridine-2-carbonate was added to 168 g of 35% HCl, reacted 1 h at 40-45≦̸C, and chilled to -16≦̸C for 2h to yield beta-chloroalanine, which was filtered and washed with iso- Pro. The filtrate was reacted with 388 g of 10% NaOH soln. at 45≦̸C for 4 h to yield 105 g of 32% Na aziridine-2carbonate, which was reacted with 85 g of 35% HCl to give betachloroalanine. The total yield was 64% based on the initial aziridine-2-carbonate-Na salt.

H2O and absorbed on the resin. The resin was heated 7 h at 80-85 ≦̸C in 100 ml of flask, packed on column, and eluted was concd. and dried to yield 11.4 g threonine(Yield 88.6%, Purity 92.5%).

Abstract: DL-cystein is prepd. industrially by reacting beta halo alanine with trithiocarbfonate and decomposing the resultant trithiocarbonate acid mono(aminocarboxylethyl)ester with acid. DL-cystein is useful as a medical supply and cosmetic. The trithio carbonate is pref. an alkali metal, alkali earth metal or ammonium salt, the amount thereof per 1mol., beta halo-alanine is 1-10 mol. pref. 1-5 mol. and these materials are reacted at from -20≦̸C to 100≦̸C, pref, 0 - 80≦̸C for 1-30 hrs., pref. 2-20 hrs.. Acidolysis can be effected e.g. by directly adding sulphuric aicd to the reaction system or blowing in hydrogen chloride gas and heating at 0-80≦̸C for 0.5-50 hrs.

Abstract: a-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester or the hydrohalide thereof is prepared by esterifying a-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine or a-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine which has been formed in situ by treating an N-protected-a-L-aspartyl- L-phenylalanine in an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid or a methanol-containing aqueous solution of sulfuric acid in the presence of an alkali metal halide or alkaline earth metal halide in a medium composed of sulfuric acid, water and methanol, thereby to allow the resulting a-L-aspartyl-L-phenyl-alanine methyl ester to precipitate as its corresponding hydrohalide, and then isolating the hydrohalide; and when the preparation of the methyl ester is desired, neutralizing the hydrohalide.
