    Abstract: A surface mount electrical connector (10) includes an insulating housing (12) having a through receptacle (16, 18), the housing being mountable to a printed circuit board (46). A spring contact (14) is mounted in the receptacle of the housing and includes a contact pad (26) at one end exposed at the bottom of the housing for surface engaging a circuit trace on the printed circuit board. A contact cusp (34) is formed from the opposite end of the spring contact and projects from the top of the housing for engagement by a complementary contact component. A mounting post (30) is provided intermediate the ends of the spring contact for fixing in a mounting aperture in the housing. The spring contact is a planar stamped metal component disposed in the housing with the plane of the contact generally transverse to the top and bottom of the housing. The contact cusp (34) is preloaded within the housing.

    Abstract: An electrical connector assembly (10) is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board (12) which includes at least a pair of mounting post-receiving holes (24) and at least one solder tail-receiving aperture (25). The assembly includes a housing (18) having at least a pair of mounting posts (22) for positioning in the holes (24) in the printed circuit board. At least one contact member (34) is mounted on the housing (18) and includes a solder tail (44) for positioning in the aperture (58) in the printed circuit board. The solder tail (44) has a generally straight side (44a) and a projecting hook (44b) on an opposite side (44c) for retaining the connector assembly on the printed circuit board. The width of the solder tail between the straight side (44a) and the outermost point of the hook (44b) on the opposite side (44c) is no greater than the width of the aperture (58), and the centerline (57) of the solder tail (44) between its sides is offset, in the direction of the hook, relative to the centerline (60) of the aperture (58) when the mounting posts (22) are aligned with the holes (24) in the printed circuit board (12).

    Abstract: An electrical switch (40) includes a generally planar, generally stiff dielectric substrate (44). Stamped sheet metal circuitry (46) is engaged to at least one side of the substrate and includes an open circuit portion (46c). A layer (20) is juxtaposed over the circuitry and includes at least one contact area (36) on a side of the layer in facing relation with the open circuit portion (46c). Therefore, movement of the layer (20) toward the substrate (44) is effective to move the contact area (36) and close the open circuit portion (46c). Preferably, the dielectric substrate (44) is insert-molded about the stamped circuitry (46). The invention also contemplates a method of fabricating the electrical switch (40), as well as a circuit frame (42) incorporating the stamped circuitry (46) and the insert-molded substrate (44).
