Abstract: An electrical terminal pin (20) is provided with a pin tip (22) for insertion into a mating electrical female terminal, a hole in a printed circuit board or the like. The pin has an electrically conductive core (24a) plated with an electrically conductive layer (24b). The pin tip is formed of a generally rounded pyramidal configuration defining four slightly curved convex sides (32, 57) joined at four edges (60) converging at a pin end. Two opposite sides (32) of the pin tip are non-plated. The other two opposite sides (57) of the pin tip are plated with the conductive layer. Portions (58) of the conductive plating layer overlap the edges (60) of the pin tip in a smooth or rounded configuration to eliminate any sharpness thereof and to provide additional plated areas over the exposed core material. The pin tip is formed by a cutting and coining operation to form the configuration of the tip and to coin the overlapping portions of the conductive plating layer over the sharp edges of the pin tip.

Abstract: This invention relates to an electrical conductor cable connector which includes a housing made from an electrical insulating material, having side calls which between them define an enclosure, a floor which extends between the sib walls to define an open topped compartment in the housing on one side of the floor, a plurality of suitably spaced conductor engaging elements in and extending from the floor into the compartment with each element including a formation in the floor of the housing for electrically connecting an electrical conductor in a cable in the floor to the conductor engaging element, a press member which is made from an electrical insulating material, for pressing a conductor ribbon tape cable into the compartment and the conductors which are carried by the tape into electrical engagement with the conductor engaging elements, mans for clamping the ribbon tape in the compartment between the conductor engaging elements and each tape exit from the housing and a catch arrangement for locking the press member in the compartment to hold the tape clamped in the housing.

Abstract: A low profile electrical connector assembly (10) includes plug and receptacle connectors (12,14) having mating dielectric housings (16,26) each mounting a plurality of terminals (40,42) which include contact portions (44,58) for interengagement with the contact portions of the terminals of the other connector. The terminals include mounting portions (46,50) for surface connection to circuit traces (48,52) on a pair of printed circuit boards (24,34). The terminals are generally U-shaped as defined by a first leg (54) that is joined to the respective mounting portion (50) of the terminal and free spring contact leg (56) that is engageable with the contact portion of one of the terminals (40) of the other connector and preloaded on a shoulder of the respective housing. The first leg (54) includes a proximal end (54a) fixed to the housing and a distal end (54b) removably held therein to permit a central portion of the first leg to be flexibly movable into a slot (62) in the housing (26). A retention member (66) is mounted at each end (18,28) of each connector housing (16,26) and is generally L-shaped with a first leg (70) attached to the respective end of one of the housings and second leg (68) adapted for surface securement to a surface of the printed circuit board. Holding members (82,88) are provided near the opposite ends (18,28) of the connector housings (16,26) for holding the connectors (12,14) in mated condition.

Abstract: Surface mount terminals are positioned in the housing and adapted to be electrically coupled to first surface mounting pads on the surface of the printed circuit board for providing an electrical and mechanical connection between the connector assembly and the printed circuit board. A rectangular conductive shield is about portions of the housing and combining to define a peripheral envelope of the connector assembly. The shield includes outside walls for covering at least some of the outside surfaces of the housing. A surface mounting foot is integral with one of the outside walls of the shield, the foot being located within the peripheral envelope of the connector assembly and adapted to be coupled to a second surface mounting pad on the surface of the printed circuit board. The attachment of the surface mounting foot to the second surface mounting pad is adapted to provide strain relief to the surface mount terminals and to strengthen the mechanical connection between the connector assembly and the printed circuit board.
