    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To align the connector modules steadily and hold them in one body without increasing the outside dimension of a unit composed of a plurality of the connector modules. SOLUTION: The retainer and the connector device together hold and align the thin connector modules such as a series of wafer connectors and perform to form the whole unit of individual connector modules. The end edge of each connector module has a pair of cavity to be formed thereat. The retainer member is provided with the same length as the thickness of the connector unit and has two end portions opposing each other and each end is provided with a first and a second engaging member. The first engaging member is inserted into the cavity of the first engaging cavity and rotated toward the connector module until the second engaging member enters and is engaged with the second engaging cavity.

    Abstract: A shielded electrical connector is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a plurality of terminal-receiving cavities and a plurality of board-engaging pads projecting from the bottom of the housing. A plurality of terminals are received in the cavities. Portions of the housing between the terminals are plated with conductive metal material to electrically shield the terminals from each other and to provide a controlled impedance. The plating is continuous onto the pads for connection to appropriate ground circuit means on the printed circuit board. In an alternative embodiment, a shielded electrical connector assembly includes a pair of connectors both of which have plated housings with interengaging plated portions.

    Abstract: A backplane electrical connector (108) electrically and physically connects a daughter card printed circuit board (102) to a backplane printed circuit boar (104). The electrical connect can be of a two piece construction including a daughtercard connector mateable with a pin header. The daughtercard connector can be assembled from a plurality of wafers (140) which each can include a plurality of conductive leads (160). The wafers can have an attachment edge that lies adjacent to the daughtercard and a mating edge that is directed toward the pin header. Each conductive lead can include a bifurcated contact extending from the mating edge and each can have a first arm (172) and a second arm (174). The first and second arms can provide two redundant points of contact with a corresponding conductive pin disposed in the pin header.
