EACH TERMINAL INCLUDES A PAIR OF SIDE SUPPORT PORTIONS (28A, 28B) FIXED TO THE HOUSING OUTSIDE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE SLOT, A CROSS BRACE PORTION (30) EXTENDING BETWEEN THE SIDE SUPPORT PORTIONS, A TERMINATING PORTION (32) PROJECTING BELOW THE CROSS BRACE PORTION AND A SPRING CONTACT ARM (34) PROJECTING UPWARDLY FROM THE CROSS BRACE PORTION AND INCLUDING A CONTACT PORTION (34B) FOR ENGAGING ONE OF THE CONTACT PADS ON THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD. THE TERMINALS ARE ORIENTED IN AN ALTERNATING ARRAY ALONG THE SLOT WHEREBY THE CONTACT PORTIONS ALTERNATINGLY ENGAGE CONTACT PADS ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD.(FIG. 4)

Abstract: An edge connector (10) is adapted for use with a printed circuit board (11) having a mating edge (11a) and a plurality of contact pads (42) on opposite sides of the board adjacent the edge. The connector includes an elongated dielectric housing (12) having a slot (20) for receiving the mating edge of the printed circuit board. A plurality of terminals (26) are mounted on the housing along the slot. Each terminal includes a pair of side support portions (28a, 28b) fixed to the housing outside opposite sides of the slot, a cross brace portion (30) extending between the side support portions, a terminating portion (32) projecting below the cross brace portion and a spring contact arm (34) projecting upwardly from the cross brace portion and including a contact portion (34b) for engaging one of the contact pads on the printed circuit board. The terminals are oriented in an alternating array along the slot whereby the contact portions alternatingly engage contact pads on opposite sides of the printed circuit board.

Abstract: A connector (10) for an edge card (102) has a plurality of contact terminals (50) spaced apart in an elongated connector housing (12). Each terminal has a general U-shape contact portion (56) which extends transverse through a contact cavity slot (18). The contact portion is horizontally cantilevered from a vertical cantilevered positioning portion (54) which is disposed within a recess (28) associated with the contact cavity (24), and is further displaceable therein in response to insertion of an edge card into the connector card slot (18). The insertion of the edge card into the card slot causes the terminal to partially deflect within the recess to bring an opposing contact surface into reliable contact with the edge card.

Abstract: An electrical connector of low-insertion force type comprises a male plug (1) having pin terminals (2) and a female socket (3) having contacts (5). Each pin terminal (2) has straight slant opposite surfaces (6, 7) extending from the opposite ends (D, E) of its flat nose (B) at a same angle. The flat nose (B) is positioned with its center somewhat beyond the center axis (C) of the pin terminal, thereby placing the opposite slant surfaces (6, 7) asymmetrical with respect to the center axis (C) of the pin terminal. Thus, the insertion force of each pin terminal (2) reaches its peak value on one side of the pin terminal earlier than on the other side as shown at S1 and S2 in Fig. 4. This permits substantial reduction of the insertion force overall. The straight inclination of surfaces (6, 7) can be easily shaped with precision. This facilitates mass production of pin terminals (2) of the same insertion force characteristics.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an edge card connector which is equipped with plural generally U-shaped contacts, has high reliability, and compensates dispersion happening sometimes in its manufacturing process. CONSTITUTION: A connector 10 for an edge card 102 is equipped with plural parting contact terminals 50 in a long connector housing 12. Each terminal has a U-shaped contact portion 56 generally, and it extends in a lateral direction via the slot 18 of a contact cavity. The contact portion 56 is horizontally cantilever supported from a position setting portion vertically cantilever supported. The position setting portion is arranged in a recessed portion related to the contact cavity 24. The contact portion can be displaced responding to the insertion of the edge card advancing to the card slot 18 of the connector. When the edge card is inserted into the card slot 18, the terminal is deflected partially in the recessed portion so that a confronting contact face is brought into sure contact with the edge card.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To allow to insert an edge card to the card slot of a connector, and to hold it securely, regardless of a latch/eject mechanism is at the closed position. CONSTITUTION: A connector 10 for an edge card 102 equipped with a plurality of separated contact terminals 50 inside a slender connector housing 12, is provided with a single latch/eject mechanism 200 provided rotatably at one end, and the edge card 102 is latched firmly in the connector housing. When an operating force is applied, one end of the edge card is ejected partially from the connector housing, so as to take it out from the connector 10. This mechanism furnishes a member having two engaging arms 216 and 218 extending upward, and the edge card can be rotated between the first position where the edge card is held by the above member at a space 212 between the two engaging arms, and the second position to push out the edge card partially from the connector housing.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent permanent deformation of a contact beam of a terminal and to always maintain a good electrical connection between a printed circuit board conductor and the terminal, when a printed circuit board having a warpage is inserted into the terminal of a housing, or is extracted therefrom. CONSTITUTION: A terminal 3 is divided into a left terminal, having a leftside contact beam 9 with a leftside contact part 11 and a right terminal having a rightside contact beam 10 with a rightside contact part 12, and the left and right terminals are symmetrical with respect to the terminal 3. These left and right terminals are arranged in a zigzag form within a housing 1, and a wall surface 20 of the housing 1 defining a printed circuit board attachment groove is formed on the surface opposite to the leftside contact part 11. Similarly, the wall surface 20 of the housing 1 is constructed on a surface opposite to the rightside contact part 12.
