    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lake receiver and a finger managing method improved for providing the merit of path diversity even when the interval of multipath radio waves is shorter than one-chip time. SOLUTION: A lake receiver 112 is provided with plural fingers 122, 124 and 128. Each finger is provided with a demodulator for demodulating the radio waves of multiple path signals and a time tracking circuit for controlling the timewise position of the finger based on the timewise position of the radio wave. Low delay spreading conditions are detected, the positions of two adjacent fingers are controlled and fingers more than two are prevented from being converged around a common timewise position. By maintaining the timing intervals of fingers, even during low delay spreading conditions, the path diversity is effectively utilized by the lake receiver 112 and the performance of the receiver is improved.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely demodulate a power control bit and a traffic bit with simple configuration in the mobile station of a spread spectrum communication system. SOLUTION: A communication device comprises a plurality of receiver fingers receiving spread spectrum communication signals. The respective receiver fingers contain reception signal intensity indication (RSSI) circuits 400. The RSSI circuit contains an energy computer 406 and filters 410 and 412 and it generates a filter signal showing signal quality. A first comparator 414 generates a primary locking indication when the filter signal exceeds a primary locking threshold. A second comparator 418 generates a secondary locking indication when the filter signal exceeds a secondary locking threshold. The band width of the RSSI circuit is changed between first band width providing the primary locking indication of a traffic channel decoder and second band width providing the secondary locking indication of a power control bit decoder and performance is adjusted to the decoding request of respective channels.

    Abstract: An apparatus (100) maintains a Pilot Set in a digital communication system that utilizes Code Division Multiple Access. The apparatus comprises a logic and control circuit (113) for providing instructions to a searcher receiver (109). The searcher receiver, in response to the instructions, sequentially scans active pilots, then candidate pilots, and then pre-candidate pilots. The scan of the pre-candidate pilots continues until all but a predetermined number of pre-candidate pilots have been promoted or demoted. Then the searcher receiver alternately scans the predetermined number of pre-candidate pilots and the neighbor pilots. The searcher receiver terminates alternate scans of the predetermined number of pre-candidate pilots and the neighbor pilots when a one of the neighbor pilots is promoted, and resumes the scan of the pre-candidate pilots.

A second comparator (418) produces a secondary lock indication when the filtered signal exceeds a secondary lock threshold. The bandwidth of the RSSI circuit (400) can be varied between a first bandwidth for providing the primary lock indication for traffic channel decoder and a second bandwidth for providing the secondary lock indication for the power control bit decoder. This allows performance to be tailored to the individual requirements of the traffic channel decoding and the power control channel decoding.
