Abstract: A paging receiver having acknowledge back capability is provided with the capability to request a received message to be forwarded to an alternate paging receiver in a paging system after having received its address and associated message. The paging receiver includes an entry device for selecting the alternate paging receiver to which the message is further to be sent, and after the selection is made, the paging receiver generates the acknowledge back response requesting the message be further sent to the selected alternate paging receiver.

Abstract: A selective call receiver receives a signal having a baud rate and comprising a number of phases. The number of phases are time division multiplexed to form the signal. The selective call receiver has selective call address information assigned thereto and includes a receiver for receiving and demodulating the signal and a memory for storing predetermined information. A demultiplexer is coupled to the receiver and the memory for demultiplexing the signal to recover one of the number of phases in response to the predetermined information and the baud rate. The selective call receiver also includes a decoder coupled to the demultiplexing means for decoding said one of said number of phases of said signal to derive a selective call message therefrom.

Abstract: A communication system (10) has a plurality of selective call transceivers (30) which operate as one-way selective call receivers in one-way coverage zones (16) where no registration is required or operate as selective call transceivers in two-way coverage zones (36) where registration is required or operate in one-and-a-half way zones where registration is attempted but not required for the selective call transceiver to receive outbound messages. The system further comprises a plurality of outbound transmitters (17, 18, and 19) covering one-way coverage zones (12, 14, and 16 respectively) and a plurality of base receivers (37, 38, and 39) and transmitters (11, 13, and 15) covering two-way coverage zones (32, 34, and 36 respectively). The one-and-half-way zone is primarily a mode of operation useful in areas having "spotty" inbound coverage and is not necessarily designated by a geographic location.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the illumination of a display used to prevent messages in a pager is described. A microcomputer is used for controlling the operation of the display in response to a read switch being actuated. A light switch, coupled to an illumination circuit provides display illumination upon the light switch being manually activated. The microcomputer also couples to the light switch to allow monitoring of the switch actuation. Upon actuation of the light switch, when a message is being displayed, the microcomputer will maintain the illumination of the display, even after the light switch has been released. Once the message has been read, the microcomputer resumes monitoring the light switch, and the illumination of the display is terminated.

Abstract: Apparatus and method is disclosed for automatically, or by selective response, call forwarding a message to one or more system pagers which have an acknowledge back capability. In one embodiment, disclosed apparatus automatically forwards a message to another system pager upon the initially called pager failing to acknowledge back within a predetermined time period. Such other pager is determined from a set paging hierarchy included within the paging terminal apparatus itself. In another embodiment, wherein the system pagers have multiple acknowledge back response capability, a called pager can request the received message be additionally call forwarded to one or more other system pagers in accordance with the particular acknowledge back response chosen by the called pager user.
