Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a transmitting power level to another power level by modifying a 2nd control signal according to the state of a detection circuit network and deciding a 1st control signal according to the 2nd control signal. SOLUTION: A transmitter 135 of a radio telephone 100 outputs a transmitting signal with a transmitting power that is designated by a control signal on a line 137. A power level detector 149 is connected to the transmitter 135 and detects a transmitting power through a coupler 145. A controller 161 controls the generation of a transmitting power by the transmitter according to a detection voltage that is included in a demodulation signal and a specification power step. The controller 161 receives the specification power step and the detection voltage and outputs a control signal that represents a transmitting power according to the specified power step and the detection voltage. Further, a detection circuit network 159 is connected to the power level detector in a parallel structure and can modify a detection voltage by changing from one state to another state.

Abstract: A transmitter (135) responds to a first control signal by outputting a transmit signal at a transmit power according to the first control signal. A power-level detector (149) responds to the transmit power by outputting a second control signal representative of a power level of the transmit power. A sensing network (159) is capable of changing from one state to another state in response to a stimulus, for example, the position of a retractable antenna (101) or attachment of a connector (113) or both. The sensing network may modify the second control signal depending upon the state of the sensing circuit. A controller (161) responds to the second control signal, whether modified or not, by determining the first control signal according to the second control signal.

Abstract: A radiotelephone receives a command from a base station to set its transmit power to within a specified range. The radiotelephone regulates its transmit power to a nominal level within this range by measuring the transmit power in power level detector 149 and outputting a feedback signal V DET representative of transmit power on line 163 to a controller 161. In response to this signal the controller sends a control signal on line 137 determining the transmit power of transmitter 135. A sensing network 159 senses when the radiotelephone' s retractable antenna 101 is extended and modifies the feedback signal V DET by switching in a parallel resistance 165. Modifying V DET causes controller 161 to adjust the transmit power to a reduced value when antenna 101 is extended. Thus two different power levels within the range specified by the base station are obtained. Sensing network 159 can alternatively or in addition sense the attachment of a jack 109 to a plug 111 and so cause a reduction in transmit power when external antenna is not connected.

Abstract: According to the method and apparatus of the present disclosure, dual drain control uses a variable voltage supply on the drains of a first stage (302) and a second stage (304) to control the output power. In particular, dual drain control having a 1:1 ratio is employed at lower power levels, with single drain control at higher power levels. Such drain control could be employed by directly varying (1008, 1010) the voltage on the drains of the power amplifier, such as with signals from a microprocessor, or by a specific circuit (203) to generate the drain voltages based upon a control voltage.
