PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set up and manage multiple resources in multiparty multimedia conference sessions. SOLUTION: The method includes a step for accepting an initiation request of a multiple resource session including the multiple resources from a client. The initiation request of the multiple resource session includes a list of session participants and a session resource description including multiple group resource descriptions. Each group resource description describes a logical group of at least one resource of at least one media type. The method includes a step for assigning a group identifier to each group resource description, and a step for assigning a session identifier to the session. The method can further include a step for transmitting the session identifier and a new session resource description to the session participants. A method and apparatus is provided for mixed mode conference call setup. The method includes the steps of inviting users (112) to a mixed mode conference call by providing invitation information from an inviting user (110) to a server (116) and thereby providing invitations from the server (116) to each of the users (112). The invitation information indicates the users, the modes acceptable for the conference call and the mode accepted by the inviting user (110). The invitations from the server (116) include information indicating the modes acceptable for the conference call. The users (112) provide a response to the server (116) which includes information indicating a selected mode accepted by each user. The server (116) sets up a conference call where each of the users (112) and the inviting user (110) communicate in the selected modes accepted by each.

A method and apparatus method of filtering packet data for an anonymous user device in a packet data network communication system includes a first step of defining a special context information element containing special context information. A next step includes sending the special context information element in an activate packet data protocol (PDP) context request to a network to initiate a call from an anonymous user device. A next step includes configuring the data packets so that only the special context is allowed. A next step includes assigning an interim IP address to the user device. A next step includes mapping the data packets of the configuring step to the interim IP address of the user device. A next step includes defining permissible routing identities per the special context. A next step includes routing the data packets between only those permissible routing identities from the defining step.

A communication system (200) provides for a mobile station (MS) (202) to pre-register with a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) (250) servicing a neighboring Routing Area (RA) (208) that is a handoff candidate. In pre-registering with the neighboring RA and SGSN, the MS at least partially registers with the RA and SGSN, that is, at least a portion of the MS's registration information is conveyed to the neighboring SGSN serving the neighboring RA, prior to the MS being served by an associated neighboring BSS (230), for example, prior to an initiation of a handoff of the MS to the neighboring BSS. By pre-registering with the candidate SGSN, a duration of a registration process and the corresponding service disruptions when the MS is handed off to such an SGSN are reduced.

The method includes receiving a request to initiate a user selected service, which uses a packet data connection, prior to the establishment of the packet data connection. An activation request is then sent for establishing a packet data connection, the activation request includes user selected service parameters for use in defining a user selected service. The user selected service is then initiated as part of establishing the packet data connection. The apparatus includes a processor coupled to a user input for receiving a request to initiate a user selected service and a transceiver for communicating with a network. The processor includes a connection module adapted for establishing a packet data connection via the transceiver. The connection module has a user service initiation module for initiating the user selected service as part of establishing a packet data connection.

Depending on a camera (420) setting, a desired PTV service mode is invoked when a PTV call is initiated by activating a PTV function.
