Abstract: A process is disclosed of obtaining a thermoplastic composition formed from a polyolefin matrix comprising a polypropylene with a fluidity index of from 2 to 100 g/10 minutes when measured at 230°C under 2.16 kg, and a mineral lamellar filler which is talc with a median diameter D50 of at least 1 µm, as measured by Sedigraph, and a lamellarity index of at least 4 before introduction into the matrix and at least 3 when measured in the thermoplastic composition, by dispersing the lamellar talc in the polyolefin matrix in a viscoelastic state by means of at least on compounding extruder, which process comprises (a) the formation of a viscoelastic mixture of the polypropylene matrix and the lamellar mineral talc particles by heating and kneading the said composition at a temperature at least equal to the working temperature of the polypropylene, (b) the submission of the viscoelastic mixture to thermo-mechanical work, (c) the elimination of volatile components from the viscoelastic mixture, (d) the transformation of the viscoelastic mixture resulting from step (c) into an industrially usable granulated material, characterised in that, to obtain a controlled and homogenous dispersion and distribution of the lamellar mineral talc in the polypropylene matrix, while substantially retaining initial morphological characteristics of the lamellar mineral talc particles, the viscoelastic mixture is subjected during steps (a) and (b) to a weak and controlled rate of shearing of no more than 200s -1 and the viscoelastic mixture is subjected in step (b) to at least one cycle of extension and relaxation in a dedicated zone which is at least 25% of the total length of the at least one screw of the compounding extruder. Also disclosed is the use of thermoplastic compositions obtained by such process in the manufacture of products for the automotive industry, domestic appliance industry, electronic industry, building industry, construction industry, internal design industry, sport and leisure industry, in packaging or in toys.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method for crosslinking a thermoplastic polymer or copolymer with vinyl acetate units, which consists in reacting, during the implementing processes, at a temperature ranging between 80 DEG C and 280 DEG C: the polymer or copolymer with vinyl acetate units, and a polyfunctional alcoholate, in the presence of a catalyst. The crosslinking of polymers or copolymers with vinyl acetate units in the presence of a second thermoplastic polymer or copolymer enables to prepare TPV materials. The method for obtaining a hybrid organic-inorganic material consists in: dispersing and grafting an inorganic network on a thermoplastic polymer or copolymer with vinyl acetate units inducing hydrolysis-condensation of the polyfunctional alcoholate pertaining to the network based on polymer or copolymer with vinyl acetate units and of the excess polyfunctional alcoholate. Said dispersion and said grafting can be carried out in the presence of a second thermoplastic polymer or copolymer for producing hybrid organic-inorganic TPV materials.

Abstract: Se describe un proceso para la obtención de una composición termoplástica formada a partir de una matriz poliolefínica que comprende un polipropileno con un índice de fluidez desde 2 hasta 100 g/l0 minutos cuando se mide a 230ºC, bajo 2.16 kg; y un relleno mineral laminar el cual es talco con un diámetro medio D50 de al menos 1 mum, como se midió con un Sedigraph; y un índice laminar de al menos 4 antes de la introducción dentro de la matriz y de al menos 3 cuando se mide en la composición termoplástica, por dispersión del talco laminar en la matriz poliolefínica en un estado viscoelástico por medio de al menos sobre el extrusor de composición, dicho proceso comprende (a) la formación de una mezcla viscoelástica de la matriz de polipropileno y las partículas del talco laminar mineral por calentamiento y al amasar dicha composición a una temperatura de al menos igual a la temperatura de trabajo del polipropileno, (b) la sumisión de la mezcla viscoelástica a trabajo termo-mecánico, (c) la eliminación de componentes volátiles de la mezcla viscoelástica, (d) la transformación de la mezcla viscoelástica resultante del paso (c) dentro de un material granulado utilizable industrialmente, caracterizado en que, para obtener una dispersión y distribución homogénea y controlada del talco laminar mineral en la matriz de polipropileno, mientras que retiene sustancialmente las características morfológicas iniciales de las partículas de talco laminar mineral, la mezcla viscoelástica esta sujeta durante los pasos (a) y (b) a una frecuencia débil y controlada de corte de no mas de 200 s y la mezcla viscoelástica esta sujeta en el paso (b) a al menos un ciclo de extensión y relajación en una zona dedicada la cual es al menos del 25% de la longitud total de al menos un tornillo del extrusor de composición. También se describe el uso de las composiciones termoplásticas obtenidas por tal proceso en la fabricación de productos para la industria automotriz, industria de electrodomésticos, industria electrónica, industria de la construcción, industria del diseño interno, industria deportiva y recreativa, en empaques y en juguetes.

Abstract: Elastomeric polyolefinic thermoplastic composition (A), (for the formation of a part of the insert type cap for placing a safety air cushion in a motor vehicle), comprises an olefinic polymer (I) comprising propylene, a copolymer (II) containing alpha -olefin ethylene (IIa), a cross linking agent (III) and a free radical generating agent (IV), where (A) further comprises a thermoplastic elastomer and optionally a high density polyethylene. Elastomeric polyolefinic thermoplastic composition (A) (partially cross linked), (for the formation of a part of the insert type cap for placing a safety air cushion in a motor vehicle), comprises an olefinic polymer (I) comprising propylene, a copolymer (II) containing alpha -olefin ethylene (IIa), a cross linking agent (III) and a free radical generating agent (IV), where (I) is a copolymers of propylene/ethylene or propylene/alpha olefin or a compound having a shock resistance of at least 30 kJ/m 2> (measured according to the standard of ISO 180 and lzod notched at 23[deg]C), (II) has density of 0.870 g/cm 3> (measured according to the standard of ISO 1183), and (A) further comprises a thermoplastic elastomer and optionally a high density polyethylene. An independent claim is also included for a molded cap produced from (A) for housing a safety air cushion (which will be opened by controlled tear to spread the cushion at the time of the firing of the pyrotechnical system without fragmenting at the time of bursting at low temperature) of a motor vehicle.
