Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable device having a plurality of selectable display modes to provide an image to a viewer. SOLUTION: The portable device includes an image source, a control-processing unit for providing image data to the image source, a light source for providing illumination light to the image source, and an optical device having a plurality of optical elements for forming an image from emitted light of the image source along a light passage of the optical device. The optical device is structured to change based on the display mode in which image formation is selected. At least one of the display modes is used for forming a virtual image through an exit pupil expander, and the display modes includes a mode for sensing the image formed on a surface provided on the light passage by a viewer. In the mode, the image formed on the surface provided on the optical passage adjacent to the portable device is sensed by the viewer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
A system for interacting with a physical entity includes a user-wearable terminal and a mobile station. The user-wearable terminal is capable of automatically receiving a selection of a physical entity as at least a portion of a user wearing the terminal moves into proximity with the entity thereby moving the terminal into proximity with the entity. The terminal includes a first short-range communication element for receiving information from the entity at least partially over an air interface. In addition, the terminal includes a second short-range communication element for transferring input data to the mobile station at least partially over an air interface, where the input data is based upon the information related to the entity. The mobile station, upon receiving the input data, is capable of performing at least one action based upon the input data.
Abstract:
A portable device (1) having an optical engine (16) adapted to form an image from an image source in four different modes to allow a viewer to view the image. The image source is a microdisplay device, which can be reflective (32), transmissive (32’) or emissive (32’’). The display modes include a near-eye display (NED) mode, a near projection display (NPD) mode, a Window mode that provides a virtual image to a viewer at a distance, and a projection display mode that projects an image on a surface at a distance. The portable device has an internal light source (20) to provide illumination to the image source for the first three modes. The portable device is further adapted to receive the light output from an external light source for use with the fourth mode.
