Abstract: There is disclosed herein a wheel trim retention for securely and removably attaching a wheel trim member to a vehicle wheel comprising a retention band having a plurality of clip members secured to the wheel facing side thereof each of which has a pair of tooth carrying arms which are adapted to bitingly engage a portion of the wheel so as to form a primary retention arrangement. The retention band may also be provided with an annular or localized radially outwardly extending protrusion which is adapted to engage a safety groove provided on the wheel in response to the distortion of the retention band caused by the forces generated by the engagement of the toothed members with another portion of the wheel thereby providing a secondary mechanically interlocking retention.

Abstract: A wheel trim assembly comprises wheel trim (2) which is removably attached by a central bolt (6) to a bracket (4) adapted to be secured in use to vehicle wheel (8). Numerous means for preventing rotation of the trim (2) relative to the wheel (8) are disclosed including frictional or positive (see, e.g, pin 58) engagement between the trim and bracket (4) and between the trim and wheel rim. The trim has a central aperture having a removable cover (34) to conceal the bolt (b) from casual view. The bolt has an irregular groove therein adapted to receive a corresponding projection of a wrench to effect rotation thereof.

Abstract: A decorative unit for a wheel is described which has an annular decorative element which is releasably attached to a central hub element by means of a centrally arranged bolt. The central hub element can be attached to an associated wheel. The annular decorative element is provided with a central opening which has a removable cover element arranged therein in order to conceal the centrally arranged bolt. Furthermore, a locking bolt is described which is provided with an outer surface in which a groove is arranged which can receive a correspondingly constructed projection of a key in order to turn the bolt. The groove is held in alignment by means of a plastic bolt holder arranged in the interior of the decorative element. Devices for preventing rotation of the decorative element in relation to an associated wheel are also described.

Abstract: The wheel hub cover has a series of slots around the edge moulded into inner (110) and outer tags (100), between which metal insert clips (30) are gripped. The clips have a re-entrant shape with stamped retaining lips (80) which grip grooves in the wheel disc. They are held in the grooves by moulding over holes through their base support strips. The clips and cover are suitable for low cost mass production. The clips are firmly held in the moulding with thesecuring lips braced on the cover by moulded ribs (150). No special tools are required for fitting the covers.
