Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp and a sealing technology of its bulb wherein a rupture and blackening of a quartz bulb can be prevented, and there is no occurrence of failure such as a crack in a quartz bulb sealing part and an electrode falling out or the like, even when it is actuated for a long time.
SOLUTION: In the high-pressure discharge lamp in which the quartz bulb and a pair of electrodes are provided, a pair of electrodes are opposedly arranged, and the quartz bulb is air-tightly sealed at a sealing part of the quartz bulb together with one part of the electrode, this is the high-pressure discharge lamp characterized that the maximum value of the surface roughness of the tip part of the electrode, is 5 μm or less, and the high-pressure discharge lamp and the sealing technology of this bulb wherein the length of a contact part between the electrode and the quartz bulb at the sealing part is within a prescribed range.
