Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of controlling a printing process and thus a printing result at an original position, directly examining the quality of a polymer layer under the printing process, and correcting it without any alterations under certain circumstances. SOLUTION: An apparatus for optical measurement has a radiation source and a radiation detector mutually arranged so that the radiation source, under operating conditions, irradiates a droplet of a polymer solution or a polymer dispersion liquid, and so that the radiation detector receives radiation reemitted from the droplet and/or radiation transmitted through the droplet. This apparatus is so configured that, at a time when the droplet newly becomes printable under the printing process, a measuring process is carried out such that a boundary surface does not remain between the droplet and the polymer quantity printed afterward. In a process step A), spacer (5) is structured on the transparent substrate in such a way that, upon application of a second functional layer (11), contact between a first functional layer (10) already applied on the substrate and a part of a printing machine responsible for the transfer of the functional layers onto the substrate is avoided. In two other process steps B) and C), the first functional layer (10) and the second functional layer (15) are applied over a large area, for example, through large-area standard printing methods.

Whereas in prior art production methods, the color conversion layers (4) were applied in a contactless manner to a substrate (1) using ink jet printing methods, the invention now uses printing methods which directly impinge upon the substrate, namely methods involving the use of a printing form. Flexographic printing and offset printing, for example, function according to this technique.
