Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety brake of an elevator, for stopping an elevator car. SOLUTION: A safety brake of an elevator, for stopping an elevator car by making use of frictional force is formed of a guide 18 having an inclined supporting surface 24, and a brake shoe 26 having a base part provided with an inclined surface 28 and a rail contact surface 30. The guide surface 28 of the brake shoe 26 is brought into direct and slide-contact with the supporting surface 24. A material having the low coefficient of friction is partially provided on either surface so that the coefficient of friction between the guide surface 28 and the supporting surface 24 may be 0.1 or less. In this case, a roller cage assembly can be removed from a brake, and braking force can be efficiently distributed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable and safety elevator brake for high-speed and heavy loads that has a high friction coefficient and low abrasion. SOLUTION: The safety elevator comprises a base, a wearing surface installed on the base brought into contact with an elevator guide rail, and a brake shoe 26 provided with the base, wherein at least a part of the wearing surface is made of an alloy consists of about 99.4 wt.% of molybdenum, 0.5 wt.% of titanium, and 0.1 wt.% of zirconium. In order to stop an elevator. The safety elevator brake is installed on an actuator for pressing abrasion material of the brake shoe 26 toward the guide rail.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety elevator brake that is suitable for a high-speed elevator with heavy loads. SOLUTION: This safety elevator brake to stop an elevator car is provided with a carbon-carbon composite material 36 provided on the wearing surface of a brake shoe which creates braking force by contacting to a surface of an elevator guide rail 16. Since the wearing surface of the brake formed with a carbon-carbon composite material has a constantly high friction coefficient and a low wear rate, it is suitable for a high speed elevator with heavy loads for use in a high building. This material can be optimized by forming into a two or three dimensional knit structure.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator safety brake suitable to be used for a high speed elevator also high in carrying capacity. SOLUTION: In an elevator safety brake for suspending an elevator car, an insert 38 made of silicon nitride is provided for the frictional surface of a brake shoe which is brought into contact with the surface of an elevator guide rail so as to allow braking force to be provided. The insert 38 made of silicon nitride is mounted by way of an intermediate member 4O made out of elastic material, the provision of the intermediate material 40 thereby enables any action against a base part 26 to be elastic. Since friction over the frictional surface of the brake containing silicon nitride, is high in force and constant, and further, low in frictional coefficient, this brake is thereby suitable to be used for an elevator high in speed and carrying capacity, which is used for a high rise building.
