    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make improvements in serviceability of the movement of passengers at a high-rise building by transferring a cage up to an elevator car frame from a vehicle after shifting this cage on the vehicle up to a point adjacent to the elevator from a first point in the horizontal direction, and subsequently shifting the cage to a second point in the vertical direction. SOLUTION: In order to promote the conveyance of passengers in both horizontal and vertical directions, two tracks X1 and X2 are installed in a conveying floor set up on an upper floor of a high-rise building being connectible to vertical stories by means of a transfer elevator of a passenger cage, and a vehicle 107 capable of mounting a cage 101 is traveled along these tracks X1 and X2. A changeover between transfer elevators H1 to H4 and L1 to L4 and these two tracks X1 and X2 is carried out in use of two crossover tracks 30 and 31 traversing these tracks X1 and X2. With this constitution, the cage 107 is made to go up or down by the elevator, while another cage 101 is transferred on the vehicle 107 at the transfer floor, transferring it horizontally along the transfer floor.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a building core space by comprising overlapping close hoist ways and continuously carrying cage cab, which are smaller in number by one than lower hoist ways next to a shuttle, to multiple car frames. SOLUTION: When passengers get on cage cabs 34-36 on an underground level 42, a triple deck car frame 29 is lifted to a first level 47. Then, the cage cab 34 is left in the triple deck car frame 29 on the first level 47, while the cage cabs 35, 36 are moved to a double deck car frame 30 so as to be transferred to the upper side of a building. Similarly, the cage cab 35 is left in the double deck car frame 30 on a second level 48, while the cage cab 36 is transferred to a single deck car frame 31. Subsequently, the cage cab 36 is finally arrives at a landing on the third level 49 in the building, and then, the passengers get off and other passengers get on the cage cab 36. Afterward, the cage cabs 34-36 are transferred to the underground level 42 by the inverse principle of that for the upward transfer, so that sufficient shift of the shuttle is completed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator safety brake suitable to be used for a high speed elevator also high in carrying capacity. SOLUTION: In an elevator safety brake for suspending an elevator car, an insert 38 made of silicon nitride is provided for the frictional surface of a brake shoe which is brought into contact with the surface of an elevator guide rail so as to allow braking force to be provided. The insert 38 made of silicon nitride is mounted by way of an intermediate member 4O made out of elastic material, the provision of the intermediate material 40 thereby enables any action against a base part 26 to be elastic. Since friction over the frictional surface of the brake containing silicon nitride, is high in force and constant, and further, low in frictional coefficient, this brake is thereby suitable to be used for an elevator high in speed and carrying capacity, which is used for a high rise building.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To handle freight efficiently by removing a cage for passenger from an elevator car frame in the case where there is no need to transfer passengers, and attaching it to a freight container instead, then transferring it in a hoistway of an elevator shuttle for passenger. SOLUTION: A lower elevator shuttle system 10 is composed of both upper and lower hoistways 11 and 12 and a shifting floor 13 shifting a cage to an adjacent car frame from the car frame of either of these hoistways 11 and 12, and the upper hoistway 11 is made connectible to the shifting floor 13 being concerned in an upper shuttle system 19 at an upper end. The lower hoistway 12 is extendedly installed in passing through a grand floor (lobby level) 17, installing the cage conveyably toward a transfer floor 18 being concerned in the upper shuttle system 19 from a horizontal coveying level 16 of an underground part. According to necessity, the cage for passenger is removed from the elevator car frame, and it is attached to a freight container instead, making it transferable by way of the hoistway.

    Abstract: The arrival of each of four dual-hoistway shuttle elevators S1-S4 is synchronized with a selected one of ten local elevators L1-L10, or ten low rise elevators L1-L10 and ten high rise elevators H1-H10 at a transfer floor 26 by limiting 140 the speed of the shuttle, gradually 149, or rapidly 154, 155 decreasing the speed of the shuttle, delaying a local elevator by holding its doors open for extra time, or controlling the speed of a local elevator, by cancelling or avoiding hall calls. Empty local elevators may be allowed to remain at the high end of the building, or compelled to travel to the lobby if needed. Elevators approaching a transfer floor may be synchronized by adjusting the speed of one of them until the remaining distance is the same for both. Hall calls may be prevented, cancelled, or negatively biased in dependence upon the tardiness of a local elevator. Synchronization may be achieved between shuttle elevators and local elevators, between portions of multi-hoistway shuttle elevators, and amongst elevator combinations employing three or more hoistways.

    Abstract: Double deck elevator cars (10-12) are moveable in corresponding adjacent overlapping hoistways (7-9). Passengers who have entered the bottom deck (39) of a first elevator (12) from a ground landing (41) are transferred into the bottom deck (47) of a second elevator (11) as passengers in the upper deck (46) of the second elevator are transferred to the upper deck (38) of the first elevator. Passengers in the lower deck (31) of a third elevator (10) are transferred to a lower landing (33) as passengers in an upper landing (32) enter an upper deck (30) of the third elevator. Passengers are thereafter transferred in the same fashion between the second elevator and the third elevator at a second transfer level (49).
