Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make improvements in serviceability of the movement of passengers at a high-rise building by transferring a cage up to an elevator car frame from a vehicle after shifting this cage on the vehicle up to a point adjacent to the elevator from a first point in the horizontal direction, and subsequently shifting the cage to a second point in the vertical direction. SOLUTION: In order to promote the conveyance of passengers in both horizontal and vertical directions, two tracks X1 and X2 are installed in a conveying floor set up on an upper floor of a high-rise building being connectible to vertical stories by means of a transfer elevator of a passenger cage, and a vehicle 107 capable of mounting a cage 101 is traveled along these tracks X1 and X2. A changeover between transfer elevators H1 to H4 and L1 to L4 and these two tracks X1 and X2 is carried out in use of two crossover tracks 30 and 31 traversing these tracks X1 and X2. With this constitution, the cage 107 is made to go up or down by the elevator, while another cage 101 is transferred on the vehicle 107 at the transfer floor, transferring it horizontally along the transfer floor.

Abstract: Elevator cabs (A,B) are transferred between elevators, which may be shuttles, in various levels of a building, such as transport floors, in response to car calls registered in the cabs and hall calls registered on the transport floors. The cabs may be transferred from carriages (107) or bogeys onto elevator car frames (104) in a lateral direction, which is perpendicular to the motion of the cab on a carriage (107) or bogey, or in a longitudinal direction which is the same as the direction of motion of a cab on a carriage or bogey. The horizontal/vertical control and transfer may be effected in response to the arrival at transport floors of elevators having cabs therein, or in response to the arrival at an elevator of a bogey carrying a cab which must be transported between a transport floor on one level of a building and a transport floor on another level of a building, in order to serve the need of a car call registered therein or a hall call. The horizontal transportation may occur on transport floors within a building, or may extend between different building segments or between different buildings.

Abstract: A car door seal, comprising a brush 32, is utilized to seal the openings 42 between a closed car door and an elevator car and to minimize backlash between the car doors and the car. By utilizing a brush, such uneven openings are effectively sealed because the brushes bend for narrower openings between the car door and the car. The brush also provides effective damping and spring forces between the door and the car. As a result, door rattle, caused by backlash and aerodynamically induced vibration loads during car travel, is minimized, thereby minimizing vibration and noise within the interior of the car.

Abstract: An elevator car (10) is disposed in a frame (15) which moves on rails through an elevator hoistway. A pendulum mount is used to mount the car (10) in the frame (15) so that the car (10) is free to swing within the frame (15) in pendulum fashion. Both lateral and torsional swinging movement of the car (10) within the frame (15) are controlled. A combination spring/damper assembly interconnects the car (10) and the frame (15) to control such lateral movements of the car (10) whereby the car (10) is softly stabilized within the frame.

Abstract: Air deflectors are mounted on the top and bottom of the counterweight assembly in an elevator system to deflect air in the elevator hoistway to the sides of the counterweight as the latter moves up and down in the hoistway. The deflectors ensure that air turbulence is not directed toward the car as the car and counterweight pass each other in the hoistway. A quieter and smoother passenger ride is thus accomplished. In an ultra high-speed elevator system, the counterweights may be completely enclosed in an aerodynamic jacket. Cable connections and compensating rope connections to the counterweight are all made inboard thereof to ensure that the counterweight is free of turbulence-inducing protuberances.

Abstract: Air deflectors 46 are mounted on the top and bottom of the counterweight assembly 2 in an elevator system to deflect air in the elevator hoistway to the sides of the counterweight as the latter moves up and down in the hoistway. The deflectors ensure that air turbulence is not directed toward the car as the car and counterweight pass each other in the hoistway. A quieter and smoother passenger ride is thus accomplished. In an ultra-high-speed elevator system, the counterweight assembly may be completely enclosed in an aerodynamic jacket (50, Fig. 4). Cable connections and compensating rope connections to the counterweight are preferably all made inboard thereof to ensure that the counterweight is free of turbulence-inducing protruberances.

Abstract: In a traction drive elevator system, the ropes from the counterweight are fed over a secondary or deflection sheave to the bottom of a drive sheave, around the drive sheave for more than 180 DEG and then to the elevator car. The sheaves contain polyurethane inserts for the rope. The draw angles, vertical and horizontal, are 1.5 DEG .
