Abstract: The operator assembly for a casement window includes a folding crank hand le and cover assembly that are located on the exterior surface of a trim piece on the sill of the window frame. The crank handle is attached to the drive shaft of the operator of the assembly in such a way that the handle may be folded down into a low-profile position in which the knob of the handle projects into a receiving pocket in the cove r. An integral flap on the handle extending beyond the knob covers the pocket when the knob is received therein so as to fully conceal both the knob and the pocket and to present a smooth exterior in which surfaces of the handle and cover blend together to eliminate interference with window treatments and persons in the immediately vicinity. Internal detent projections within the pocket yieldably retain the knob so as to provide for snap fit reception of the folded handle into its home position. Finger depression s in sidewalls of the cover on opposite sides of the pocket facilitate gripping of the edge s of the handle for unfolding, even though the handle presents a relatively thin cross sectional configuration in the vicinity of the cover flap and pocket. An alternative embodiment discloses an egress operator assembly in which the single link arm that swin gs the sash between opened and closed positions has a hump adjacent its inner end that clears the worm gear of the operator assembly when the arm is in its fully closed position, thus allowing the arm to cross over the worm gear and lie along the sill in a compacted condition when the sash is closed.

Abstract: A spring powered roll type fiberglass window screen has side edges received in guide channels in which locking bars are pivotally and slidably received. In closing the screen, the locking bars are longitudinally slidable by a screen actuator which in turn causes the locking bars to be pivoted into engagement with the screen by action of a guide actuator tab engaging a cam surface on the locking bar. In opening the screen, the screen actuator moves the locking bar upwardly until it is pivoted out of engagement therewith by a guide cam surface on the guide channel whereupon the screen is free to move to a fully raised position, leaving behind the locking bar.

Abstract: A casement window locking system includes a rotatable locking cam mounted in the frame jamb with a window catch access opening on one side and a locking lever access opening on the opposite side. The locking lever has a U-shaped inner end which embraces the locking cam when the two members are engaged and a tab on the locking cam engages a shoulder on the locking lever to prevent withdrawal of the locking lever until a tool is used to raise the locking cam when the tool is inserted through the catch opening. In an alternative embodiment, a spring clip may be placed on top of the locking cam and it includes a shoulder for engaging the shoulder on the locking lever. The removable locking lever makes it possible to install and finish the window without the locking lever and change locking levers to color coordinate with the room interior.
