An image reader comprises a lens unit 4 having a lens 1 of low resolution, a lens of high resolution, and a first drive unit 3 for driving the lenses and a second drive unit 5 for driving the lens unit 4. In a first resolution mode, the lens 1 of low resolution is placed in a first position along the optical axis, and the lens 2 of high resolution is not placed in a position along the optical axis. In a second resolution mode the resolution of which is higher than the first resolution, the lens 1 of low resolution is not placed in a position along the optical axis, and the lens 2 of high resolution is placed in a second position along the optical axis. In a third resolution mode the third resolution of which is higher than the second resolution, the lens 1 of low resolution is not placed in a position along the optical axis, and the lens 2 of high resolution is placed in a third position along the optical axis.

A picture reader is provided with a read unit (2) equipped with a contacting member (21) which comes into contact with an original placing table (11) of a flat bed unit (1) and a pressing element (30) which presses the unit (2) against the table (11). Another picture reader is composed of a reader main body (50) having a read unit (102) and an original placing table (51), and an original cover (42) which has a light source (43) and a diffusing plate (45) and is attached to the main body (50) is an openable state, the distance to the light source (43) from a transparent original (41) placed on the table (51) being variable correspondingly to the thickness of the original (41). A still another picture reader reads in advance the accumulated difference between the movement of the optical unit (102) and a light source unit (43) and, when read scanning is started, shifts the relative position of the optical unit (102) to the light source unit (44) in the direction in which the accumulated difference is produced.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the load to a sheet to extend the life of a paper separating pad in an automatic paper feeding device by suppressing the pressure applied to a pick spring. SOLUTION: This automatic paper feeding device successively takes out a plurality of papers 6 stacked on a shooter 5 from the lower side and moves them to a prescribed position. This device has a pick roller 1, a gate 2 for forming a clearance with the pick roller 1, the paper separating pad 3 for taking the papers 6 one by one by the sliding contact with the pick roller 1, and a pick spring 4 for pressing the papers 6 stacked on the shooter 5 from above. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture reader by which a sensor unit can be fitted simply and precisely in the case of fixing the sensor unit to a casing and running a carrier unit in a direction orthogonal to the sensor unit so as to read a picture. SOLUTION: The reader is provided with a block member provided in the neighborhood of the position of one end part of the sensor units and having a slope tilted in the direction of the sensor unit and a projection member provided in the form of abutting on the slope and formed at the sensor unit, and an adjusting member for moving the block member back and forth in the direction of the sensor unit.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a read mechanism of an image reader that prevents uneven reading of an image caused by a difference of a moving speed between a read section and a light source for a transmission original and to provide its control method, in the image reader that is provided with the read section moved in the subscanning direction and with the light source for the transmission document that is moved in the subscanning direction synchronously with the read section to emit a light to the transmission original and that provides the read light transmitted through the transmission document to the read section and in its control method. SOLUTION: A shading main plate having an edge line tilted with respect to a read line formed to the read section is provided at an end of a light source for the transmission original and detects an offset caused by a difference of the moving speed between the light source for the transmission document and the moving speed of the read section while the reading is progressed so as to correct the moving speed of the light source for the transmission document.

SOLUTION: A paper cut pin 1 is formed in a printing head 5 integrated with a printing pin 6 with a Predetermined interval between the paper cut pin 1 and the printing pin 6 for providing a mechanism for conducting cutting line processing such as perforations or paper cutting processing. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeder whose service life can be extended by designating, out of a plurality of transportation rollers, only specified transportation rollers as ones to be replaced. SOLUTION: In the feeder 1, a first drive system 15, a control device 18, and a pressure application system 19 operate such that the transportation force of the specified transportation rollers 121 is greater than the transportation force of other transportation rollers 122, whereby, when transporting a medium P, a load applied on the specified transportation rollers 121 is increased and a load applied on the other transportation rollers 122 is reduced. Thus, when a plurality of media P are transported by transportation rollers 12, the wear of the specified transportation rollers 121 accelerated, thereby the specified transportation rollers 121 reach their wear limit early as they wear quickly, whereas wear in the other transportation rollers 122 is suppressed. Accordingly, duration in which the other transportation rollers 122 reach their wear limit can be extended. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for a carrier driving mechanism which suppresses the speed fluctuation by pulsation at constant speed traveling, while executing the quick start up by shortening the start up region, in a control method for a carrier driving mechanism. SOLUTION: In the above control method for a carrier driving mechanism, it is shifted to constant speed traveling, when the acceleration generated in the pulsating carrier in its start up region becomes, minimum. A control program for prescribing the procedure of the control of the above carrier driving mechanism is stored in a computer-readable recording medium.
