Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a smoking compsn. for a tobacco substitute and the like which contains a new aroma-releasing additive comprising a β-cyclodextrin deriv. and an oleophilic org. flavor compd. and which improves the taste of the main smoke and gives comfortable aroma to the side smoke. CONSTITUTION: A β-cyclodextrin deriv. soln. such as hydroxyalkyl-substd. β- cyclodextrin is mixed with an oleophilic org. flavor compd. such as vanillin, and the mixture is subjected to ultrasonic treatment for 10min at room temp. to obtain a clear, colorless and viscous soln. of water-soluble molecular clathrates. The soln. is applied on the outer surface of the roll paper of cigarettes in stripes in the longitudinal direction of the cigarette by using a micropipet. Then the cigarettes are dried at room temp. Thus, the smoking compsn. of the purpose is obtd. Under the smoking conditions of cigarettes, the combustible filler and/or the molecular clathrates of the β-cyclodextrin deriv. and the flavor compd. release a volatile flavor component of the cigarette smoke to improve the taste of the main smoke and to give comfortable aroma to the side smoke.
