Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a smoking compsn. contg. spice releasing compsn. having less mobility or volatility at ordinary temp. by adding a small amt. of a specific spice releasing additive to natural tobacco, reconstituting tobacco or tobacco substitute. CONSTITUTION: This smoking compsn. contains a mixture composed of (A) a combustible packing selected from the natural tobacco, the reconstituting tobacco or the tobacco substitute and (B) the spice releasing additive expressed by the formula of about 0.001 to 5wt.% based on the total weight of the packing. In the formula, (n) denotes 0 to 4; R denotes methyl, ethyl. The additive described above may be made to exist as the surface coating of a paper packaging material or as an absorbed component. The additive may be incorporated as an adhesive compd. utilized for sealing the side seam of the paper packaging material of a cigarette into the tobacco. The additive is a low volatile compd. which thermally decomposes to the volatile constituting component under ordinary smoking conditions. One of such components is vanillin or ethyl vanillin.
