Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tobacco web suitable for the use in an electrical cigarette system. SOLUTION: The tobacco web wound so as to form a cylindrical tobacco rod 60 for a cigarette 23 operated by an electric cigar lighter 25 (figure 2) includes a base web 68 and a tobacco material 70 arranged along the first side of the base web. The base web comprises a combination of a tobacco fiber with a cellulosic fiber combined in a ratio of from about 2:1 to 4:1. The base web has a basic weight within the range of about 35 to 45 g/cm 2 , and the tobacco material has at least twice of the basic weight of the base web. The tobacco material contains finely pulverized tobacco and an extracted tobacco solid material in a ratio of from about 3:1 to 9:1, and further contains a humectant in a level of about 5 to 20 wt.% of the material. Abstract:
A cigarette filter having a reagent which chemically reacts with and removes a gaseous component of a smoke stream. The reagent contains functional groups covalently bonded to a non-volatile inorganic substrate which is incorporated in the filter. The filter can remove gaseous components such as aldehydes from tobacco smoke. Preferred functional groups are 3-aminopropylsilyl groups covalently bonded to silica gel (APS silica gel). The reagent can be contained in a space in the filter or incorporated in one or more filter elements such as tipping paper, shaped paper insert, mouthpiece plug, solid filter element, or free-flow filter element. The reagent can be part of or coated on paper such as tipping or filter paper or incorporated in non-paper filter elements formed from fibrous materials such as cellulose acetate or polypropylene fibers. Other preferred reagents include aminoethylaminopropylsilyl (AEAPS) silica gel and aminoethylaminoethylaminopropylsilyl (AEAEAPS) silica gel.
Abstract:
An electrical smoking system (21) comprising a cigarette (23) and an electric lighter (25), wherein the cigarette (23) comprises a tubular tobacco mat (66) partially filled with material tobacco (80) so as to define a filled tobacco rod portion (60) and an unfilled tobacco rod portion (90). The cigarette (23) and the lighter (25) are mutually arranged so that when the cigarette (23) is received in the lighter (25), the electrical heater element (37) of the lighter (25) at least partially superposes at least a portion of the filled tobacco rod portion (60). The cigarette (23) and the lighter (25) are also mutually arranged so that when the cigarette (23) is received in the lighter (25), the free end (15) of the cigarette (23) is occluded. The cigarette (23) includes a zone of perforations (12, 14) at a location along the filled tobacco rod portion (60), with the cigarette being free of perforations along the unfilled tobacco rod portion (90).
Abstract:
A flavor generating unit (10) is provided for use in an article for delivering to a consumer a flavor-containing substance, the article having electrical heating means (12) disposed in a cavity. The flavor generating unit (10) includes a carbon fibrous mat (16) and flavor generating medium (14) disposed on the mat (16) for providing efficient generation of flavor-containing substance. The carbon mat (16) includes carbon fibers that are made from a precursor selected from the group consisting of rayon, pitch, and polyacrylonitrile. A flavor generating article incorporating the flavor generating unit is also provided.
Abstract:
A consumable tobacco film strip (200) adapted to dissolve in the oral cavity includes a tobacco component (250), a binder, a humectant, and optionally a flavorant. The tobacco component can include ground or powdered tobacco and/or a tobacco extract. Tobacco flavoring can be incorporated in the film strip by casting or extruding a mixture or the tobacco component may be added to a film strip after formation of the film. The film strips are adapted to dissolve and provide tobacco satisfaction.
Abstract:
A heater fixture for use in an electrically heated cigarette smoking system having a source of electrical energy for heating a cigarette includes an inner wall or barrel having at least one opening through the inner wall extending from an outer peripheral surface to an inner surface of the inner wall, and at least one flow distributing element positioned within the at least one opening and extending inwardly from the inner surface. The flow distributing element or elements are provided with a plurality of openings that are in fluid communication with an interior of the heater. 1

Abstract:
An electrically heated cigarette (23) used in an electrical smoking system includes a flavoring-release additive and sorbent effective to remove one or more gas-phase constituents of mainstream tobacco smoke. The flavoring-release additive includes &ggr,--cyclodextrin and at least one flavoring. Flavoring is released in a cigarette upon the flavoring-release additive reaching at least a minimum temperature during smoking. The flavoring- release additive can have various forms including, for example, powder and films.
