Abstract: An apparatus for storing a defibrillator, such as an AED, on a host structure includes a container shell mountable to the host structure. The container shell may be used to store the defibrillator within it. Also included in the container shell is a vibration-dampening material disposed between the host structure and the housing of the defibrillator. The vibration-dampening material is configured to reduce an amount of vibration of the host structure imparted to the defibrillator. This is especially useful for storing AEDs on means of transportation, i.e. where the traveling host structure is a bus, an airplane, a ship, or an elevator, and where the vibration sources from its propulsion system.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for determining a defibrillation treatment protocol in an external defibrillator whereby a user may override a CPR-first default protocol. The method includes following steps configured in a defibrillator controller of issuing an inquiry; waiting for a response to the inquiry for a set time; ordering a CPR treatment protocol if no response is received within the set time; analyzing a response; ordering a CPR treatment protocol upon receiving a non-affirmative response to the inquiry; and ordering a shock treatment protocol upon receiving an affirmative response to the inquiry. Upon selecting a shock treatment protocol, the defibrillator performs a shock analysis under the shock treatment protocol, and either orders a CPR treatment protocol if shock treatment is not indicated by the shock analysis or provides a defibrillation shock if shock treatment is indicated by the shock analysis. Queries may be presented to a user in visual, audible, or both visual and audible format.

Abstract: A CPR machine (100) is configured to perform, on a patient's (182) chest, compressions that alternate with releases. The CPR machine includes a compression mechanism (148), and a driver system (141) configured to drive the compression mechanism. A force sensing system (149) may sense a compression force, and the driving can be adjusted accordingly if there is a surprise. For instance, driving may have been automatic according to a motion-time profile, which is adjusted if the compression force is not as expected (850). An optional chest-lifting device (152) may lift the chest between the compressions, to assist actively the decompression of the chest. A lifting force may be sensed, and the motion-time profile can be adjusted if the compression force or the lifting force is not as expected.

Abstract: A CPR chest compression machine includes a retention structure configured to retain a patient's body, and a compression mechanism configured to perform automatically CPR compressions to the patient's chest. The CPR machine also includes a camera coupled to the retention structure or to the compression mechanism. The camera has a field of view that spans at least a certain portion of the patient's body, and is configured to acquire an image of what is spanned by its field of view. The image may be stored in a memory, displayed, transmitted, analyzed to diagnose the patient, detect shifting of the patient within the CPR machine, etc.
