Abstract:
An apparatus, method, and system associates an identifier with a data packet. The identifier uniquely identifies a communication module, such as a host interface card, within a data storage system. In operation, a computer host sends a data packet to a server. The communication module receives the data packet and associates an identifier, unique to the communication module, with the data packet. The data packet is stored in a disk array, such as a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) system. When the computer host later requests the stored data packet, a validation module, which may be implemented within a PCI adapter such as a host interface card, retrieves the data packet and determines whether the data packet is corrupt. If the data packet is corrupt, the validation module identifies which host interface card corrupted the data with the use of the unique identifier associated with the data packet. The faulty communication module may then be removed from operation in the data storage system.
Abstract:
An aerial lift, a kit of parts for installing a safety device in the aerial lift and a method includes a moveable platform having a control panel operable to manoeuvre the platform provided near a first side of the platform and a proximity sensing means that remotely senses the presence of off-platform objects within a sensing zone opposite the control panel. A further method averts an accident when operating an aerial lift by remotely sensing whether or not an off-platform object is present in a sensing zone of proximity, and if an object is sensed in the sensing zone, signalling an alarm and/or shutting down the aerial lift to stop further movement of the platform.
Abstract:
A method for initiating a data storage facility recovery process in a data processing system having a first peer data storage facility and a second peer data storage facility communicating with the first peer data storage facility by a communication link. The method of initiating a recovery process is invoked by one peer data storage facility upon another peer data storage facility operating under a peer to peer remote copy (PPRC) protocol. Data copied from a first peer data storage facility to a second peer data storage facility is monitored for errors. Upon detection of an error by one peer data storage facility, recovery and data collection operations are initiated on the other peer data storage facility. Preferably, the initiation of recovery and data collection operations occurs out of band, over a second communication link between the peer data storage facilities.
Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for facilitating monitoring and responding to error events. An apparatus may includes a set of counters associated with a processing system resource, each counter associated with an error event and having attributes defining a count value, counter thresholds directly related to time, and empirical status information for the error event related to time. A user may adjust counter thresholds indirectly to set an error tolerance. An update module may update counters within the set based on an error event for the processing system resource. The management module persists and maintains a life cycle for counters based on counter attributes. Each counter may be of two types either a fixed counter that counts error events from a start time for a defined duration or a sliding counter that counts error events up to a predefined number of error events within a window of time.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for selecting status data. Redundant views are obtained from multiple synchronous redundant devices. It is determined that the redundant views from the multiple synchronous redundant devices are conflicting. A redundant view score is calculated for each of the redundant views based on one or more characteristics from each of at least two characteristic types, wherein the characteristics are associated with weighted scores. One of the redundant views is selected based on the calculated redundant view score for each of the redundant views.
Abstract:
A system for rotationally coupling telescopic interior and exterior shafts, which are disposed so that they can slide one within the other along a common axis, includes a first rotational coupling between the two shafts which is constituted by a rotation friction system. A second rotational coupling between the two shafts is constituted by internal and external splines. The internal splines are on the periphery of the end of the interior shaft and the external splines are on the internal face of the exterior tubular shaft so that a normal rotation torque is transmitted by friction and an exceptional rotation torque is additionally transmitted by the splines.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a drop detection method includes: moving a light source along a first side of the drop zone to illuminate drops passing through a drop zone; and, without blocking any part of the drop zone, detecting light scattered off the drops as the drops pass through the drop zone. In another embodiment, a drop detector includes: a light source on a first side of the drop zone for illuminating drops passing through a drop zone; a light detector on the first side of the drop zone near the light source and a movable carriage carrying the light source and the light detector. The light detector is exposed to the drop zone for detecting light scattered off drops as the drops pass through the drop zone. The carriage is movable along the first side of the drop zone in a direction transverse to the drop direction.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are described that achieve independent and simultaneous processing of a plurality of substrate-supported biological samples. In one embodiment, substrate holders arranged in a minor arc are independently moveable between a processing position and an access position, and reagents are delivered to substrates held in the substrate holders through a nozzle plate that moves along the arc of substrate holders. The disclosed apparatus and method are particularly suited for implementation of lean processing of biological samples.
Abstract:
Provided are a method, system, deployment and article of manufacture, wherein in one embodiment, a mode of operation may be switched to a service mode by detecting a device inserted into a connector of an input/output port of a system. In the illustrated embodiment, the device has a connector and a wire which loops a code received from the input/output port back to the input/output port. Upon detecting receipt of the transmitted code, the mode of operation may be switched to a service mode. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
A computer system including an error recovery system establishes error threshold inversely proportional to the number of a like kind of system resources, such as host adapters. When a host adapter is initialized or deactivated, a software subcomponent of a processing device calculates a new threshold number and writes it to a memory location associated with each host adapter. When a number of errors exceeds the threshold number, the host adapter is reset, quiesced for repair, or fenced for replacement.
