    Abstract: An electromechanical device comprises a substrate and an array of pixels (103) arranged on the substrate in rows and columns, a respective pixel having at least one respective light blocking element (202) and at least one electrode for actuating the light blocking element. A plurality of scan line interconnects (110) are formed on the substrate running in a first direction, and enable a plurality of pixels along the first direction to respond to data voltages. A plurality of data interconnects (112) are formed on the substrate running in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, and provide data voltages to a plurality of pixels along the second direction. For a respective pixel: a first switch (2956) and a second switch (2966) connected in series, are formed on the substrate, and the first switch (2956) and second switch (2966) together connect an energy source to at least one of a light blocking element and the at least one electrode. A data switch (2957) is coupled to a corresponding one of the scan line interconnects (2946) and a corresponding one of the data interconnects (2948) for controlling movement of the light blocking element.
